So, I’m the sort of person that can’t stop creating new ideas for stories. I saw a similar thread to this, and decided to post a few of the major plots I’ve been bouncing around and their genera. 1: My biggest/most developed one, a tale of a slave in a Roman-type society who awakens a power. He then attempts to destroy the Empire, with horrible consequences. War/romance. 2: A prince in a WW1 era society, who’s grown up during a civil war. He escapes the palace, and learns that the rebels do have a point (although neither side is truly ‘in the right’). War/drama. 3: The story of an elven Dark Lord, switching viewpoints between him and the last of the humans he tried to exterminate. High Fantasy/post apocalyptic. Please explain why you find one more interesting.
I'd like to know a bit more detail about these. For example, the first one. Are the horrible the consequences for him personally ? What do you mean 'awakens a power' ? Is it a fantasy type thing? I think that could be the most unique of the 3.
For him, the consequences are delayed. They’re caused by him attempting to decimate the Empire, generally ruining everything and plunging the world into a new dark age. The consequences for him... you’d have to read it to find out. The power essentially is Light ‘magic’, for lack of a better term. Dark magic is common, natural and shallow. It’s an exhaustible power, and by the time of the story it’s very weak. In the old days, Sorcerers were gods. Now, they’re extinct, except for one individual. Light magic is only present in three individuals, all of whom are millennia apart. In compensation, it’s extremely powerful. The main character manifests it as the ability to become an enormous dragon, which horrifies everyone because dragons were made from humans by one of the Light users to incinerate his foes. It is fantasy, but the magic is mostly gone. The last big examples are the various megafauna (like lindworms and sea monsters).
