Long shot, but does anyone happen know who wrote this? (line breaks are my own interpretation as I had to jot it down from a tv show)

    Soho

    The lights blaze and dance,
a city with her make-up on.
And in the side streets that criss-cross
    their devious ways behind the
arteries of light, and in the
alleys where the lamps are low,
the clubs and the easy-money joints,
the fashionable night spots as proud
of their respectability as a girl
in her first mink. The all-night cafes
    and the nude shows.
    Soho.
Life after dark with an enamelled glass
and the cracks showing. Garish, gay,
avaricious and a little sleazy at the edges.

Sorry, OurJud. Doesn't ring a bell with me, and Googling some of the phrases didn't seem to come up with any hits. What was the TV show? If you go to their web site (and what show nowadays doesn't have a web site), they might list the sources of their soundtracks. Or go to IMDB, which covers TV shows as well. Good luck!

It was something I caught on BBC FOUR - a rather odd 'A to Z' celebration of the dark, using archive footage and music. Footage of Soho was the vignette for the letter S. If I'd recorded it I could check to see if there was any mention in the credits, but I neglected to do so at the time.

    Thanks anyway.

ETA: Found it on the BBC iPlayer, but nothing in the credits.
