Character development gig - could i post it?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by GVV, May 22, 2020.

    Dear colleagues,

I have a (paid) character development and writing gig which I think a much better "execution" than an average copywriter could offer.

Is it ok to post it here, and if yes - in which part of the forum?

    Thanks!!

Hi GVV - I'm one of the forum moderators. Thanks for asking before posting any links, but the short answer to your question is: No.

We don't allow any kind of advertising anywhere on the forum. Here is the relevant quote from our Rules section, which covers the issue :

This rule exists to keep the forum members from being spammed. We are a community here, of people interesting in writing, or wanting to connect to other writers (as it can be a solitary business.) What we definitely are not is a customer base. :)

Please take the time to read our Forum Rules and also our New Member Quick Start These two links will explain our position more fully.

Meanwhile, I do want to welcome you to the forum, if you want to join our community as a fellow member. If you have expertise and are willing to help our members in an informal way, please do! Take time to get to know us, and let us get to know you. It's fun and an informative place to hang out.

If you have any difficulties settling in, please don't hesitate to ask, and I'll do what I can to help.

    Cheers, Jan

Jan, thanks for your answer - and I am glad I asked ("Advertising as a new member will result in a permanent ban"). Perhaps you might have any suggestions on a place where I can post smth like that? - a place that is not overpopulated by all kinds of self-taught "copywriters"?

To clarify a bit, what I have in mind is not a simple 'task' (aka "write 10k words on 150 new beauty products or anything like that") - i am looking for someone to help me create a character with a "voice". So frankly only places like this amazing community kind of resonate..

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks,
    Vas

I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. It sounded as if you were offering your services as a 'better-than-average' copywriter, and wanted paid for it! Which would not be permitted here.

If you're looking for copy-editing services for YOU to buy, there might be a few people here who could offer advice, or recommendations/warnings based on their own experience of using a copy-editor. But the good news is, we can certainly offer a many-heads-are-better-than-one feedback service via our Workshop area, if you want folks to look over your work and give you advice on it. And it will be free!

However, there are a few hoops you need to jump through before that can happen.

In order to help you get oriented and get settled, here are a couple of links I strongly recommend that you read at the start, if you haven’t already. They will give you a good idea of how we operate here on the forum:

    New Member Quick Start

    Forum Rules

You will notice in the New Member Quick Start that in order to post your work in the Workshop area—the only area of the forum where you are allowed to post your work and ask for feedback—you will need to do at least two critiques for other people, in exchange for receiving feedback on one of your own pieces of work.

This site is designed around the concept of members helping each other out by ‘paying it forward’—through our two-for-one critique system. So do two critiques, THEN you can post something of your own. This advance 2:1 ratio lasts as long as your membership here.

In order to help you get started doing critiques, here is a link to a good article written by one of our former moderators: https://www.writingforums.org/threads/constructive-critiques.20627/

One of the popular areas of our forum is our contest section. There is a monthly contest running for Short Stories, Flash Fiction and Poetry. You can enter these ongoing contests, even as a new member. And we really encourage you to visit the site, read the current entries, and vote for your favourite when the voting period starts. This means a lot to the people who have written these entries. And it will also give you a good idea of what our members are capable of writing.

While the Role Playing Game section is not new, it’s being given a revamp. So if you are interested in playing and writing Role Playing Games, you might want to visit this section and get in on the fun. https://www.writingforums.org/threads/resurrecting-the-dead-rpg-section-rebuild.165055/

I hope you have fun getting to know us and let us get to know you, via the posts you make. Please feel free to explore the forum. There is a lot under the hood. This site map might help you find your way around more quickly than the menu bars do, so feel free to use it. https://www.writingforums.org/faq/

If you encounter any difficulties, don’t hesitate to contact me or one of the other moderators, whose names appear in yellow at the bottom of the Community page. We will be glad to help.

Again, welcome! We'll start off on the right foot this time. :)

    Cheers for now,
    Jan
