Forgotten the name/author of a book I have read

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by balgay, Apr 25, 2024.

This is a long shot but I have spent hours trying to track down the title/author of a book I read a few years ago. It was a crime/thriller and I usually read well-known crime fiction authors and it was a traditionally published paperback.
The plot involves a scene where a female police detective attends a meeting of swingers in a car park or possibly a dogging location. After the swingers party has finished she is snatched and held hostage. The main plot revolves around the police attempts to find her. The protagonist is, I think, a detective. I think it was one book in a series. I thought it was Peter James but I have checked the blurb on all his books and nothing fits.
I will check out any suggestions so don't worry if you are not sure just fire away.

Sounds like one of those Swedish crime novels.

Sounds like something Harlan Coben might write?

Yes, it does but I have not read Coben for many years. Will have a look anyway.

I had given up on this one but came across the book quite by chance yesterday. Bury Them Deep by James Oswald. I wanted to find it because I had written a scene for my next book and when I finished it I remembered reading a book with a similar plot line. Although mine did not involve a police woman it did involve swingers/dogging and I was worried I might have subconsciously copied the location and his description of the location. As I could not find it I decided reluctantly to drop the scene rather than risk plagiarising it by accident.
Happy to say on re-reading it that Oswald’s scene is nothing like mine so I have restored it to the draft.

Interesting forum. I thought my OP was pretty vague but not a patch on some of the posts on there!
