I just learned, courtesy of author John Boyne on Twitter, that if you hold down a laptop key for a vowel it'll give you options for alternate characters like ë, é, â, and so on. A great help for proper spelling. Maybe everyone but me (and John) already knew this, but I thought I'd share it.
I didn't. Usually it just keeps putting out the letter until you stop pressing it. Interesting incite, Thanks.

Yeah, this feature is available by default in Mac OS. Also works on Android and iPhone devices too (at least for the default keyboard).
interestingly it works on the blackberry physical keyboard (never noticed!) Can't do the Romanian "ț" though )c:
