Hello...Um I'm new to this forum and I was hoping that I could get some good advice and some aid on naming a continent and country. I just finished creating a massive world for my story but there is one nameless continent left and I'm having a difficult time finding an appropriate name for it. The continent is based on North America and inside the continent is a HUGE country that is SO full of themselves--The country is based on the USA. So any ideas on naming this continent & country? Any type of help is much appreciated. Please & Thank You fellow writers!
What are the names of the other countries? Are you tending towards ending them in 'on , 'land , 'ia or other?
Naming different places is one of the hardest things I can imagine in world-building. It is tough. I tend to approach from cultural aspect. I wrote some history for my fantasy world, and one old king was completely full of himself. His name was Haldren II. As he grew up with power, he wanted to make the country worship himself as demigod. Therefore, he forced a law that every major city would adopt ending "-dren" to it. So, cities turned from Cravona to Cravdren, from Ravintroe to Ravindren and so on. That is how I worked out one bit, so is there something in your culture that you could use?
Give us more of your setting and world so we know how it all should feel. Whats the time period? What are the other nations?
It really depends on the language sound you want it to have. What is the sounds of the language this country has? What feel do you want this name to evoke? Something grand I presume?
Burt. The capital of Burtopia. Alternatively here's http://www.seventhsanctum.com/index-name.php I recommend the "greek" name generator. It doesn't actually use any greek words, just kinda sounds sorta greekish.
Once you've named your continent and country, you could have part of the plot revolve around international affairs with a northern country in a continent somewhere to the east. I suggest Nedlatendesland for the name of that country.
Uh...The other continents names end with as, os, ika, ra & arc..And I made sure they all sound like different places.
Well...The country's national language is English...Its hard to explain but I just want a name that people will notice it is based on the United States of America...I'm sorry if I am not making any sense...
...Forgive me for being a little shy on sharing the setting of this world but I'll tell you this...The entire world is a lot similar to our world for example: There is a continent similar to Africa & Asia It is actually in the modern times (But since it is a fantasy world--it seems a little futuristic.
What about Terminus? As in, "we're the centre of the world "because we're so important." And it sounds cool. The Heartland? Or, if you want to be really egotistical, Utopia. "because we're perfect."
"Terminus"! Whoa! Where did that come from?! I love it! Does it have any proper meaning? I think I'll use that...Or perhaps we can find a way to mix it with Heartland or Utopia to make an even more incredible name.
Terminus is Latin but it is what Terminal is derived from. A lot of English is from other European languages. Anyway, it's a centre point. A meeting place. A hub. So I thought it would be appropriate.

One caveat: 'Terminus' is fresh in the minds of a few million fans of 'The Walking Dead' — but if your new country isn't full of cannibals you should pull it off.
