Self doubting, procrastinating Auther of nothing yet!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by BoneyBonina, Dec 16, 2021.

I am a 35 year old South African Lady with bad habits and a boring life. I cant write to save my life, i can be boring as hell but i have no doubt that my experiences as an adult entertainer can make an interesting psychology thriller.

Yeah, procrastination can keep us from doing all sorts of things, and there are zillions of reasons why. Too busy with things we think are more important, fear of failure and so forth. It's a kind of writer's block and despite the joke that the cure for writer's block is plagiarism, there are a zillion more reasonable solutions. One is your participation in the forums here at WF.

Another is free writing. Giving yourself over to the words flowing off your keyboard or pencil so completely that the space between your mind and your writing disappears. A good example of that process is the movie Finding Forester in which Sean Connery plays the role of a Professor of Writing who helps a young writer get over his procrastination. Every writer, beginner or not, should watch that movie. Even the critic at Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 74% rating.

Hi, welcome. We all doubt ourselves and procrastinate at times, if not all the time. Best thing to do is to just start writing anyway, even if it feels pointless and bad, even if you only manage to write a paragraph or two. It takes time to turn it into habit. And you sound like you have a story to tell, which isn't a bad start at all.
