    Resolutions

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Mercurial, Dec 25, 2011.

    What are yours?

    Mine are:

    1) Obligatory weight loss goal
    2) Obligatory GPA goal
    3) Kick at least one vice completely. Thinking I'll start with completely cutting out soda, then nail-biting, and then the real hard stuff, in that order.
    4) Better time management (aka become a social juggler extraordinaire)
    5) Feel comfortable in my own home

Hahah! :p Well, that'll probably be the only goal if you go that route! ;) My friend just kicked his white lady to the curb earlier this year... It's a hell of a drug.

    I'm pretty sure that's domestic abuse. </oblivious>

Okay, goals? Well, first of all, I'm going to be pissed off if I don't finish my first novel's first draft before December 30.

    1. Proof and edit first draft of Devil Waters Rising entirely.
    2. Write two more novels.
    3. Write at least two short stories (10-20k in length, probably).
    4. Start review vlog on YouTube to review independently published writing, video games, music, short films, and all manner of things that require audiences.
    5. Rewrite Jurassic Park screenplay to be truer to novel with changes reflecting real life, since the novel was heaps cooler than what Spielberg did to it.
    6. If 5 goes well, rewrite The Lost World screenplay since it was awesome too.
    7. Have one manuscript ready to be sent to publishers by Christmas next year.
    8. Read more often (ties in with 4).

That's about it for official resolutions, I think.

I've given up on resolutions. I have monthly goals that are flexible based on the unexpected. That's as close as I'll ever get. :p

Hope to stop making resolutions I'll forget the next week after I make them.

Though I could post them on my wall or something...

I just hope I can get the things I really want to, do the things I really want to, and avoid any bad things while I'm doing it.

Spend more time with people I care about.
Avoid stress, whenever possible. It's a waste of energy.
    Keep up with the exercise.

Okay, this year I want to:

    • Find a job.
    • Have better luck with my writing and publishing (12 stories accepted this year, to put an arbitrary number on it).
    • Take second place of the Lib Dems in May's local elections.
    • Finally feel like my life has a semblence of direction.

    That'll do for starters.

i don't make any... to me, new year's day is an arbitrary benchmark set by only a minority of the planet's population that means nothing... it's just another day... nor do i set any goals... i simply strive to do my best from day to day, moment to moment...

makes me a weirdo, but a nearly self-contented one, at least... :D

I've never gave myself a resolution; to me there is no point in waiting until either New Year or Easter to make a habitual change.

There is nothing weird about striving to do your best on a daily basis. That is how everyone in the world should be.

And as silly as new years resolutions are, I am all for it; if it helps people better themselves. Same with religion, I don't believe in it. But, it helps people be better people. So more power to them.

    1. Get a job
    2. Get back to the level of fitness I had before my knee problems started
    3. Do more writing
    4. Get more published (2 publications and half-a-dozen shortlists in a year ain't good enough)

    1. read more
    2. get my current novel project completely ready, revised and edited.
    3. start the one I plan on writing after this.
    4. get a job with more hours, at least 50-70%, right now I'm not even working 20h a week...
    5. visit Italy and my friends there at least once.

    1. Write more.
    2. Get off my rear end and actually submit some of my stories to publishers.
    3. Practice my guitar more. I've lost the chops I used to have because I haven't been playing much recently.
    4. Defeat the Evil Forces of Evil and be celebrated forever as a Champion of All that is Good and Right.
    5. Avoid having to change diapers through the clever ruse of continuing to not have children.
    6. Find a decent Chinese restaurant somewhere nearby. Also a decent Italian restaurant.
    7. Find some way to transform my old fat physique into Mr. Universe without actually dieting or exercising.

    1) Get a job, I've been unemployed since mid-October and being unemployed sure makes you lazy. I've been trying to get a job though, but I guess I'll have to try harder.
    2) Get my own apartment, I'm too old to be living with my parents. Need that job for this to happen.
    3) Drink less Coca-Cola and consume less sugar in general. I don't really have weight problems, but I'm worried about my teeth.
    4) Somehow find the inspiration to write something. I remember when I joined this forum I couldn't wait till I got the needed 22 posts in order to post my own writing. Now that I have, I simply hang out here and don't write at all. Anyone else got the same problem?
    5) Curing my phobias, or at least one of them. Fear of dogs, fear of heights, fear of pidgeons or fear of beetroots?

I don't do resolutions. I have goals all the time and I am always trying to achieve them. Not that I do to well though.

The main one would be to actually keep my resolutions. I always forget I've made them or just don't bother keeping them. :p

The only writing related resolution I have is that I want to actually enter some writing competitions/submit to publications. I note down possible ones and places to send my pieces to but then I always forget and/or miss the deadline. I graduate in the summer so I have no excuse after that.
