I don't know if there has been a thread for this, but what is the Prophecy for your story? If you have one. Critiques and constructive comments welcome. I'll start. (and maybe end, who knows...) 'At the fall of dawn, the dark was struck. Riven to dust, the dark soul unstuck. The splintered light waits, sent to ground. As the span of time knows no bound. Gathering shadows, rises the tide of night. The fallen, the beasts, master of all that might. At the cusp of the new age, all shall be defined. The rose to his breast, all starlight to shine. As, in twain, the light and the dark entwine.' Still working on it, as in fact I changed it quite a bit as I was posting this. Let me know what you think! Thom
The awakening of Gehenna is coming! Five servants of darkness bring it forth. One believes to serve themselves, but serves the Light instead. They are identified by the mark of the Eagle. One believes to serve their sect, but in fact serves themselves. They are identified by the mark of the Chain. One poses to serve one sect, but serves another. They are identified by the mark of Shadow. One believes to serve their sect, but in fact serves Darkness. They are identified by the mark of Scales. One who serves darkness, but will serve Light at the right moment. They are identified by the mark of Horns. - - - A prophecy I've got in an ongoing Vampire the Masquerade 20th edition game that's spanned two dozen sessions so far. I ensured there's multiple characters in the chronicle the players can "guess" to represent each line. Gehenna is, of course, a larger apocalyptic prophecy in the setting. I think the players welcomed it; one of them went as far as to act out of their way to fulfill a line.
"Light to moderate winds. 85% chance of rain." Seriously though, in my current WIP, I have two oracle goddesses each of whom is giving the exact opposite prophesy to the other. "When the Avatar comes, we will all be saved." "When the Avatar gets here, we're screwed. We're all going to die!"
"In conclusion, a projection of current trends indicates that the probability of a Chosen One appearing within the next decade is not high; but such a possibility should not be dismissed out of hand. In the event that one does appear, it is nearly certain that current protocols will be inadequate to deal with the disruption to the security environment which would likely result. Operational effectiveness in such a scenario (likely or not) ought to be ensured by incorporating it into current defense and security planning. Further, this report has focused only on the Chosen One's likely impact in matters of defense policy, and it is recommended that further research be authorized in other adjacent areas of national policy. An effective response to a Chosen One will be multi-pronged, and the political response will probably be as important, if not more so, than the military response."
