How to write falling on top of her scenes?

Discussion in 'Descriptive Development' started by Darcy, Apr 23, 2022.

So i encountered a problem while writing the story. Like the male falls on top of her but i wanted to know how do people exactly write these scenes. so any examples please.

Are you speaking figuratively, or literally? As in, does he literally fall down on top of her, or do you mean he's being sexually aggressive towards her?

I can't say I regularly encounter the former in many stories, but it's much like any other heavy object falling on top of someone, except in this case it's accompanied by screams and flailing of arms from the object in question. Much depends on whose point of view you are writing from, and at what point one of them realises the other is going to hit them.

It completely depends upon what the context is.

If he is exhausted, then describing it as a collapse would be appropriate.
If he is falling off a building, then describe it as a fall.
If he is deliberately falling onto her, then describe it as throwing himself or diving onto her.

Without the scene around it, it’s hard to tell. Can you give us details?

    (1) NO no no not aggressively. My bad i didn't inform in my description. it's like accidentally....

So the girl and boy were like arguing, you know typical teenagers-like and as the boy doesn't notices a little obstacle in his path, he trips over it and falls on her, like on top of her. So ho do i describe that scene?

It's not something I've seen happen in any written stories and it's not something I've personally written. I'd venture to say that most of us probably have never written this particular kind of action. It happens a lot in manga and anime though.

It depends on the tone of the story as well. Is it a comedy, a serious piece, something else? Someone falling on top of someone else is too vague. Did he trip or fall from a great height?

What are the effects on him or her?

HE tripped like on a small thing and fell on top of her- The description should maybe include the embarrassing eye-contact, pink cheeks.......You know like that?....

    @Darcy

Here are a couple of thoughts for your scene I whipped together for you.

    1st Person
Sara and I were walking through the park, arguing as usual. Nothing specific, just disagreeing about pretty much everything. Because we were looking at each other and not the path, neither of us saw the branch lying across it. We both tripped on it, launching ourselves across it and onto the ground. Sara fell first, being shorter than me, and I fell on top of her. Horrified to find I was lying on top of her facedown, while she was faceup, I blushed and tried to apologize. Nothing would come from my mouth. Sara was looking at me; it was hard to describe what her expression was, but I knew if I didn't move very soon, there would be more embarrassment forthcoming.

    3rd Person
Doug and Sara walked through the park, disagreeing with each other, again. They both seemed to always find something to argue about and today was no exception. Waving their hands and looking at each other, neither saw the branch on the path. Sara tripped first and fell on her back. Doug tried to break his fall but fell on top of her. He felt his face warm as he turned red. He had never been this physically close to Sara and it was very disconcerting. He stammered an apology as he tried to rise. She stared into his eyes with an expression he had never seen before. Her cheeks were pink from whatever she was feeling.

I made some basic assumptions about the storyline so feel free to take your own tack.

It wasn't until I'd written/published all three of my books that I realized in each one, one of my MCs falls on the other one. I apparently have a pinning kink of some kind? I've decided to actively not include in my WIP though, just in case I'm coming off as an obsessive weirdo.
