    Poetry Question

Discussion in 'The Craft of Writing Poetry' started by Thomas Kitchen, Jul 22, 2013.

    Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding a poetry piece I'm writing. I am new at this type of writing, so I am unsure of the rules, although I presume there are few. Would it be okay for me to do something like this?

    Hello, how are you?
    I am fine.
    So how was

    your holiday?
    Not too bad, I suppose.

This is obviously a poor example, and it's nothing to do with my actual poem. But is it okay for me continue a sentence into another verse? Thanks in advance. :)

Technically there are no rules to expressing yourself and poetry.

I think it is an interesting idea, especially if the next verse can carry on a separate thought or image with that one sentence as a bridging method. If done well it can work in your favour:) I don't think that specific example works, but that's only my two cents.

i agree the example doesn't work, but it can be done effectively by a good poet, if there's a good reason for doing so...
