    The online reading megathread

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by ManicParroT, Dec 15, 2008.

All good writers should do plenty of reading, and sometimes the library's too far away. Or all the books are in a language you can't read, as in my case. And buying new books all the time is an expensive habit. It certainly is for me - I buy a book, read it, and look for another one the next day.

So, I started this thread so we can all share our favourite places to find reading material online.

No list of this nature would be credible without a link to Project Gutenberg, where you can find free books that have gone out of print. Lots of classic fiction and older works here.

Infinity Plus is a British sci-fi and fantasy site, with excerpts, short stories, reviews and interviews. It's nice and clean, free of nonsense, and it's alphabetically indexed. Plus, a lot of the writers are really good, too.

Incidentally, one of my favourite stories from infinity plus:
    A dry, quiet war.

Baen Books are offering a bundle of their stuff for free, online.

Cory Doctorow puts most of his stuff on the Internet for free. He writes a very cool brand of near future sci-fi. Eastern Standard Tribe is definitely one of my favourites.

Post your free, (legit) online libraries in this thread! I know there must be some that I haven't found, and I'm sure you know about them. If this thread gets big enough it might even turn into a handy, sticked resource.

Why is this thread not in the Book Discussion Forum?

Good question. this thread is definitely missplaced.
