I'm confused. Are you starting a RPG, or just introducing a character?

After finishing his second drink. Clint paid his bill and he walked across the street to the doctors office.
When he reached his destination the young man walked inside the doctors office. Where he was greeted by one of the doctors assistances.
    Mary Ann.

" Mary Ann the doctor brought a lady in here for an examination a little while ago she was badly beaten up in the Saloon. " Where is the doctor and Lady she brought in?"

Doctor Morgan is stilling examining her as you know she likes to give each of her patients, a complete and thorough examination. When they come in to see her."

" That Lady was pretty badly beaten if you had not stepped in when you did she could have died."

" If you want to wait for the doctor to finish her work your more than welcome to wait. Just don't get in the way or cause trouble."

" I will wait and don't worry I won't cause any trouble at all." After finishing his conversation with Mary Ann.

Clint sat down in a nearby chair and he waited for the doctor and the lady to come out of the exam room. While he waited he thought about the sheriffs job offer he weighed the pros and cons. " On the one hand I need the job and the money. But on the other hand. As part of my duties. I might have to shoot and possibly kill people. "

" And during my years as a soldier with the union Army and as a gunfighter I have had to kill a lot of people. I have a lot to think about before tommorow morning."

"Would you cut that shit out" grumbled Roland's latest victim, yet another rancher's boy playing on his pa's earnings. A well-worn quarter rode across Roland's knuckles incessantly, beating at the boy's conscious with repetition of a clock's precision. Fastest way to earn twenty dollars. Five card draw, one-eyed Jack's wild. Pure nerve. Boy would better off spending it on a fine whore, than burning on me, he thought, but I'm happy to oblige. He knew the boy would be beaten senseless when finally returned home after drinking himself senseless, but Roland didn't care.

"When you call it, I will" he said, with burning confidence in his eyes, and a slick little smirk. Roland sat pretty with his wild assisted three-of-a-kind. It was obvious by the sweat, the boy had an ace pair. Too afraid to lay it down, yet too greedy to fold.

An argument broke out behind the boy, a large man and a fine lady. He slapped her around good, and started beating her. Roland frowned. It was a common sight behind closed doors, but so out in the open just was a bit much. But he knew the man, and the crimes. Some people even Roland wouldn't fleece, and that was one of them. Some mean sons of bitches just need to be put down, he thought, watching the scene play out, but doing nothing. Sheriff will run him off eventually anyways.

When the cowboy took it upon himself to make a mess of the man, the boy ran off. Roland tried to grab hold of his hand to pay up, but he was too quick. Whether he was stupid scared or smart in finding in finding an opening, Roland still missed out. Anyway you flip the coin, a little payday was just lost by a trigger happy quickdraw. Roland looked at his silver overcoat and saw minor speckles of blood. Then he saw the pair of aces and garbage side cards on the table. God fucking damn it.

The cowboy's confidence while speaking go the sheriff pissed off Roland as well. It was almost arrogant. Hell, maybe it certainly was. All Roland knew is that today had cost him enough. He grabbed is bowler hat and set off to the bartender.

"I ain't paying you extra tips for a gun fight to bloody my coat and scare off lunch. Whatever happen to the last peacemaker of a double barrel ten gauge under the counter? You forget who you are?"

The bartender frowned and rounded up a free shot of deep South whiskey, and slid it over to Roland. "Happier?"

He rolled his eyes, yet gave in to the offering, downing it in a single gulp. Not happy enough to acknowledge, but enough to quiet down. "How about one more and then I'll be on my way?"

Roland overheard the conversation with the sheriff, and wondered where a cowboy so fast, yet so indifferent, came from. Must be one of the union folk, he thought. Maybe a remnant of the great war. They got all kinds in the West, so he didn't doubt it. After the man left, Roland followed slowly, making sure not to creep so close. He felt the desire to meet him, understand why a quickdraw was out here not interested in credit for the man he killed. Most would be hunting for reward.

He followed slowly, taking his time window shopping the General Store, waiting for an opportunity. When the cowboy sat on the bench, lost in thought, Roland took the opening.

"Mind if I join you?" he asked, yet sat down anyways before answer. Silently, he rolled a fresh cigarette and looked over at the man, and nodded his head.

    "Want a smoke?"

" no I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I am sorry about ruining your card game and about the blood on your coat. When I saw that man beating that lady I knew I had to do something. So when I told him to stop it. Or I would shoot him. And he said " you don't have the guts to shoot me."
And resumed beating her. I pulled my gun and fired."

" When the doctor is done with her examination I plan to pay the bill as well. And then apologize to the lady."

A regretful man then. A killer trying to atone for his sins, Roland hypothesized. He gave the man a friendly nod, and then lit his cigarette; smoking quietly off to the side, as to not perturb the man. By his dress, he looked as if he had long been on the road, or on the run. He looked hardened by time, and burdened by strength and speed. Best approach him lightly, and, as opposed to the usual offenses of Roland, honestly.

"You did a service for the town, the woman, hell, maybe even God, so why is it that you are the sorry one? You should be getting paid, friend. I couldn't ever raise a finger in service for free." Roland sat there and smoked, waiting for reply.

" Thank you I plan to apologise to the lady because I could have hit her. Instead of the man who was beating her."
" The sheriff has offered me a job to be his deputy. I have to give him my answer tomorrow morning."

A closed book then. Not open to conversation on the subject yet.

Roland turned to the man, flicking the ash off to the side, with a flat smile and crossed his leg. "Well, a quickdraw with a conscience could really do some good." He thought about how some of his business "transactions" might not be viewed in e best light by a man like this though. Roland didn't have anything against a good man, but he also wasn't one himself. The sins of greed and pride and lust always tended to dominate, and Roland let them, welcomed them. They made him the way he was.

The man should leave town then. Or Roland should move on.

Roland patted the man on the shoulder in a friendly manner, "you seem a bit too experienced for a dusty town out here. Why don't you try your hand a bigger city with bigger pay? Seems like your skill would be wasted on wife beaters and cattle theft."

Hopefully, that would get him thinking somewhere out of here. These were his townspeople to rob, sometimes fairly. Authority figures didn't need to impose, especially not the deadly ones.

" I have considered that many times through the years. But I was born and raised in a rural environment and I am going to stick with."

" I am not ordinarily a violent man but I have been forced into doing violent things. And I have killed lots of men."

" But I have never killed anyone unless it was in self defense or if someone else was being harmed."

When he finished speaking Clint pulled a pocket knife out of his pocket along with a piece of wood and he began to Whittle.

A non-violent man experienced and skilled in killing men, Roland pondered. Not likely as clean as he says. Every man has a dark side, a story they don't want told. I'll let it go now, but I'm not buying it yet.

His skill with a knife was impressive. Maybe the man wasn't just a gunfighter. Maybe an assassin, maybe government. Roland thought him dangerous to keep around. Dangerous to those flirting with the moral gray areas like himself. He still thought the boy scout needed to go.

"Too bad, I'm sure you could do some good there." He paused for a minute, waiting for the creaking of a wagon to move by. "Might I ask, where is it you're actually from? Small town Texas like the rest of us?"

" no I am not I was born and raised on a farm in the state of Indiana. Along with my sister my parents and my grandparents. "

"When I returned home after serving in the civil war with the union army.

The family farm was destroyed and my family had been killed. As I laid them to rest. I vowed to them and to God I would find the people who killed them. And make them pay for what they did.
It took me 3 years to do it.
But found the people who were responsible for the slaughter of my family members. "

" And I killed them all along. The way I built up a reputation as a gunfighter. "

" A few minutes later the doctor came into waiting room with the lady that I saved. " Young lady you are very lucky you only have some bumps and bruise's. Had Clint not stepped in when he did you could have died."

" I am sorry about what happened. May I please take you out to dinner tonight. The lady who owns the hotel I am staying in can even repair. Your damaged dress."

" Doctor how much is the bill for your services?" The doctor wrote out the bill. And i pay it.

Roland let the man go about his business. The man's taking a liking to killing, though he probably doesn't know it yet, he thought, just kept right on killing along the way: judge and executioner. A dangerous man. He decided it was best to take his leave and stay away from him. A wolf in sheep's clothing was a monster Roland didn't have any intentions on getting close to. Lest I felt like it was my time to go.

Roland gave the man and the lady a nod, snuffed out the remains of his tobacco, and set off. Truth was, he didn't feel comfortable near the man, didn't trust him. Roland felt a little bad for the girl. She may have a mean beau, but the devil you know is sometimes safer than the one you don't. Roland survived on the road gambling by reading people. Those wrapped in smoke, like this fellow, were the most dangerous.

He need something to take his mind off the afternoon. Maybe a cheap bottle of whiskey, or a pair of whores with tits the size of texas herself, or maybe just a dusty hill to watch the red sun set to a bag of burning tobacco. Whatever happened, he just wished it away from that man. Time had taught Roland many lessons, and he had seen the ground shakers. This was one of them.

Life was simpler when the good old boys burning their last dimes on him were in town. Nobody needed these vigilante types. They just brought more pain and death.

Clint stood there in front of the Lady and he patiently waited for her to reply to his question.
And he waited and waited. Until finally he ran out of patience.

" Since your not going to say anything to me. I am going to take you back to my hotel so the lady. Who runs the place can help you get your dress fixed up."

I pick you up and I gently carry you back to the hotel where I am temporarily living. We are greeted by Mrs. Kowalski a polish American widow who owns the place. Despite the smile on her face she is not happy. images.jpeg

" Clint where have you been all day? I have worried sick about you. And you missed lunch I swear you are going to put me in an early grave."

" Calm down Mrs. Kowalski I have had a busy day. I was in the Saloon enjoying a sarsaparilla when I saw a large man beating this lady and I was forced to shoot him. "
After talking to the Sheriff he offered me a job as his deputy. I have to give him my answer tomorrow morning."

"then I went over to the doctors office because. I wanted to make sure she was alright while I waited for her."

"I met a fellow named Roland he is gambler and very good at it. After the doctor finished her examination. I introduced myself to this young lady and offered to take out to dinner. I also told her that you could repair her damaged dress."

" But she won't say anything to me. So I brought back to the hotel with me. Do you have a place that I sit her down because she is getting kind of heavy."

" Wow you have had a busy day indeed now please follow me."
Mrs. Kowalski directs me to a nearby couch then I lay her down. " Wow her dress is really damaged but I can fix it up."
" And while I am fixing it up I will see if she says anything."

" Thank you Mrs Kowalski you are a lifesaver." " Your welcome Clint now there is a big pot of hot soup in the kitchen please eat some of it then get cleaned up you are a filthy mess."

Clint went into the kitchen grabbed a bowl and a spoon. He walked over to the stove and using the nearby soup ladle he put some of the hot soup into a bowl. Then he sat down at the kitchen table and ate his soup after finishing the first bowl he had a second bowl.
