    The Z-Well Saga: Mandala

Discussion in 'Archive' started by Pheonix, Dec 17, 2012.

    Z-Well:

    Game Closed

The year is 2468 A.D and earth is locked in a brutal conflict with a splinter faction known as the Arcadians. 400 years earlier, the Arcadian Federated Colonies split off from the United Earth Colonies. What ensued was a bloody civil war that has been waged on and off for the last four centuries.

An uneasy truce was reached Two months ago, but already tensions across the borders are brewing anew. Reports have been coming in to UEC command of entire battle groups disappearing without a trace, and blame is being leveled on the Arcadians. Consequently the Supercarrier Ecthelion is deployed to the neutral zone along the border. Shortly thereafter, the Arcadians launch an all out offensive on all fronts, sweeping away the UEC defenses, completely wiping out colony after colony.

Not even planets remain in their wake, only open space. Somehow the Ecthelion has managed to slip through the front and is now trailing the Arcadian offensive line. Something big has shown up on long range sensors, and It’s making a beeline for earth.

Things are not how they seem however, and all is not right for either side. Mass memory loss, inexplicable actions by commanding officers, and mental instability are common among the militaries of both sides. Most common is an overwhelming feeling of deja vu. Also, it’s common for long time members of the military to suffer night terrors. The high command has brushed it off as battle fatigue or space insanity. Still though, most people have the feeling in the back of their mind that something is not right.

Everything is connected, and nothing is what it seems.

    Starting Location: The Ecthelion

You are a crewmember of the Ecthelion. The crew is mainly pilots and support staff, along with command officers. The size of this ship is difficult to describe. It is huge. It houses four assault frigates, each with a crew of 150, and 10 Support corvettes each with a crew of 35. There are literally thousands of fighters. The total crew numbers well past 10,000.

    Character Creation:

Since we’ve already established that the ship is huge, it should also be noted that there is great diversity of people aboard. All roles are open, but PM me your template first.

Abilities: Abilities are anything that requires an action to perform. This includes everything from weapon mods to telepathy. I leave it up to you to come up with interesting abilities. Remember to start, you’ll only have access to two, so make them count! Combat will play a large role in this game.

Race:Humans believe themselves to be alone in the galaxy, so for now they are they only playable race. But, Mods add much greater diversity.

Mods: Mods give bonuses to character attributes, and make it possible to do things that no ordinary human could do. Characters will be allowed two mods. Think of mod’s as passive abilities.

Cybernetic: Cybernetic mods include any technological additions to the human body to improve effectiveness. This can range from artificial limbs and powered joints to neural implants that increase intelligence and perception. Cybernetic mods require a power source after prolonged use.

Genetic: Genetic mods include any genetic modifications to the human body. Gene mods can influence everything from appearance to mental acuity. Even basic telekinesis and telepathy can be achieved via gene moding. Not all genetic mods take, and occasionally come at a price.

Stimulant: Stimulant mods are gained by using chemical injections into the body. They stimulate various reactions ranging from heightened or altered awareness to increased strength and mental acuity. Stims often have unpleasant side effects including addiction.

    Stats:

Also each character has a starting set of stats. There are four: Strength (STR), Agility (AGI), Intelligence (INT) and Defense (DEF). These affect your character in profound ways. Strength has a direct affect on attack damage. (Eg. Strength of 5 will give a 5% damage modifier. 6 points will give a 6% modifier and so on.) Agility is your characters ability to dodge. This comes into play when under attack. Characters with high AGI will have a higher chance of avoiding attacks when they go to dodge. Intelligence affects character skill with computers and machinery (so if your character tries to hack something, and has low intelligence, it won’t work. Conversely, a character with high INT who tries to hack will be successful.) and Defense is their damage resistance. Each point of defense reduces damage received by 5%. You will have 9 starting points to assign to your characters stats.

Dodging (AGI) and Hacking (INT) will be determined by die roll, with their stats in those areas being used as modifiers. (If this ends up being to complex we'll figure something else out.)

    Here is the template:

    Character Name:

    Age/Appearance/Gender:

    Background:

    Mod 1:

    Mod 2:

    Ability 1:

    Ability 2:

    Misc:

Stats: (Ranging from 1-10 with 9 starting points to distribute)

    STR:
    AGI:
    INT:
    DEF:

    Gameplay/Battles:
This game will work the same as any other RPG, write your characters reactions to what’s happening, and keep the story moving forward.

The battle system is very similar to a video game. Each post you have a certain number of actions that you can perform. Starting it will be 2. For example, your character is being attacked. In your post you can perform any two actions that your character has available. Moving and going into cover do not count as actions. Attacking with a weapon counts as an Action. Using an ability counts as an Action. As GM I’ll be controlling the enemies and writing their responses to player actions.

Each post counts as a turn in which players can make actions. Each battle will be different, so the number of posts it takes enemies to react will vary. Again, players post their characters actions, but DO NOT control the enemy. Then, I'll post the effects the players had on the enemy and how they react.

    Levels and EXP:
Your character will start at level one, and gain experience as they progress through the game, whether from battles, puzzles, or just for the heck! :)D Sometimes lol)

You start at level 1. To become level 2 requires 50 points. After that, just add 50 for every level. Here’s a leveling chart to level 15:

    Level: Exp-Milestones
    1:0
    2:50
    3:100-Stat point
    4:150
    5:200-Evolve Mod-Stat point
    6:250
    7:300-Stat point
    8:350-Third Action Per Post
    9:400-Stat point
    10:450-Evolve Mod
    11:500-Stat Point
    12:550
    13:600-Stat point
    14:650
    15:700-Fourth Action Per Post-Stat Point

I should be noted that after each level your EXP couner resets back to zero, and that the amount needed to reach the next level is not you total EXP since the game started, but since the last time you leveled up.

Each time you level up, you can learn a new ability. At level 5 and 10 you can evolve one of your character’s mods. This means that you can add effects to it, tweak it to improve effectiveness in a weak spot, etc. At level 8 and 15 you gain another action point. This allows you to perform more abilities per turn.

    A few other things...

Just remember, NO GOD MODDING! Your character will appear in space and die... graphically! :D

GM stands for Game Master, and His word is absolute! If you feel you have been wronged in some way, PM and we’ll get it sorted out :)

Don’t control other characters, it's impolite and if done enough could result in your character appearing in space and dying graphically :D

I know what the forum rules say, and cursing is allowed on the site, but please, keep it moderate. If you need to write an F bomb, censor it, (eg F***) If you don’t i’ll be asking you to edit.

No Flaming in the discussion thread! Keep it civil! Remember it’s just a game and we’re all here to have fun.

PM me your character templates, then after approval post them in the discussion thread. Not the main thread.

If at any point you have a problem with anything, or any questions about anything, let me know and I’ll do my best to clear it up!

    I think that’s everything! HFGL!

Your Mission, If you Choose to accept it...
"All fighters scramble and prepare for engagement! A small Arcadian battle group has drifted into the Ecthelion’s sensor range and the Captain Mcallister has ordered them taken out! The lead ship is believed to be part of the rear flank of whatever has been wiping out our colonies! We need any intel that ship is carrying! Boarding parties are to assemble aboard the Corvette designation 334 Corsair and dock with that command ship! The Main objective is the control room and radio room! Get us that intel! Move out soldiers!

    Doc Payne

Doc slipped into the bulletproof vest specially made for him. The only other in-combat medic was down with the flu, so it was up to him to join the boarding party. To be honest he was glad. He enjoyed performing on the field medicine. Doc Payne was in fact the best.
With the soldier gear on he looked like regular soldier except for the small red-cross patch just above his heart. Grabbing his medical gear and moved swiftly to Corvette designation 334 Corsair.
"Hey look, ol' Doc Payne is joining us today." One of the soldiers laughed.
Doc smiled wirly. "Carefull sonny, you know this "old" noggin isn't what it used to be. I might "forget" to heal you."
Such was the common joke among him and the soldiers. His mod made it nearly impossible to forget anything.

    Flight Deck

The Flight Deck was buzzing. The enemy fleet had been spotted, and ships were scrambling into action. Near the Corsair 334 the boarding party was assembling.

"C'mon ladies! We ain't got all day!" Shout a sergeant from within the hold.

Nearby a few deck hands were scurrying around, unhooking hoses and attaching others.

The din and echoes within the Flight Deck was incredible. For at least a mile, ships were laid out along the length of the ship, waiting to take off into the inky void. The only thing separating them was a thin force field over the docking bay doors.

James jogged down a hallway and onto the flight deck, taking it all in for a moment before a transit cart pulled up next to him.

"Where to sir!" The driver asked. People were rushing about all around them.

"Section 41." James responded and then jumped on board. The little hover cart took over flying over the deck and the chaos below. After a few moments, a large yellow 41 painted on the floor came into view and the hover cart descended. James jumped off and ran to his fighter.

"She ready to go petty officer?" James called as he approached.

"Just running through the pre-flight sir!" Petty Officer Weathers responded. "New drive is looking good, she's running clean!" James slapped him on the shoulder then jumped into the cockpit and started running through the ignition routine. He looked around at the other fighters in the section, and saw his squad were doing the same.

"Ready to kick some Arcadian butt sir?" Jacob Lewandowski, James' wingman said over the radio.

"I'm ready every morning when I wake up." James retorted. He'd flown hundreds of missions with this squad, they were the best in the galaxy. And today was just another chance to prove it.

The not so old 'old man'

The yellow siren flickered on and off continuously, almost like a strobe light as crew members stuttered along the corridor. Some carried boxes, others tapped furiously at their tablets, while a few bolted down the hallway to their posts, all narrowly missing each other. And the incessant yellow light continued to flash. On. And off.

In all the unorganised chaos, Burns had been assigned to the Corvette designation 334 corsair with a completely new set of crew. Admiral Serence had not taken kindly to his ‘frank’ opinion of the attack plan and punished Burns by throwing him in with randomers.

And here they were. One kid couldn’t get his seatbelt on, while another was looking down his barrel in an attempt to see if it was jammed. Burns snapped the gun out of the soldier’s hand, before cocking it three times. On the third time a penny pinged out from the chamber, landing on the floor. Burns grumbled, before throwing the gun into the soldier’s chest. Hard.

    “I’m keeping this.”

He picked up the penny and tossed it into the air teasingly, and as it fell Burns wrapped a clenched fist around it. All without letting his stern gaze fall from the shaken child.

"Well, well, well. They iz still letting you fly, huh?" Payne chuckled at their pilot James, as he strapped in. It was an on going joke they had going between them.
"Hey, Doc? You found a cure or something for those nightmares yet." One of the younger soldiers asked hopefully.
"Not yet. But I've got people working on it around the clock."
Just then a soldier with excessive tattoos un-jammed another soldier's gun. “I’m keeping this.” He growled. Doc had seen plenty a man with a bad temper but this guy seemed to be one of the worst. And he was new to the team.

"Name's Dr. Payne." He said, unfazed his grumpy demeanor. "What do they call you?"

"Well, well, well. They iz still letting you fly, huh?"

James the grizzled old doctor shout to him across the space between his fighter and the Corvette.

"And they're still letting you practice medicine..." He shook his head but winked at the doctor. They'd been on a few tours together, Ol' Doc Payne had saved his rear end more than once. "Try not to poison anyone!"

"Yeah doc!" Jacob called from his cockpit. "If I crash, I want you to stay away from my body!"

"Aw shut up Jake!" Susanna Elliot shouted as she hopped off a hover cart. "You know the first sight of blood you're be screaming for the closest Doctor!" Susanna was the third member of the 501st Blazing Raptors, the only pure Ace squad in the UEC. The three of them were at the top of the Fleet Wide kill count. Each with over 200 confirmed kills. Their mission today was to provide cover and support to the 334 Corsair.

The Corsair was a mid sized Corvette, capable of holding between 35 and 40 marines and their equipment. Most Corsair class ships were designed for low atmosphere drops, but not the 334. It was specially modified to be a boarding ship. The armor on the fore was thickened, and it had three big Mag Locks mounted to the front along with a drilling laser. If they couldn't make their way into a dock, the 334 could latch on and carve an airlock right into the frame of the enemy ship.

"What's the hold up!" One of the marines shouted up to the pilots.

"We're waiting on the go-ahead from upstairs! Don't worry, you'll see some action today!"

    Four

Remember. These guys are the elite. You're just a cadet, and before that a civilian. The youth strode calmly up to the lead fighter, clicked his heels together, and saluted. "Sir! Ensign Four reporting for duty, sir!" Four dropped his salute but retained his strictly disciplined stance. "This Ensign received notice of transfer to the 501st at 0400 today but was not briefed, sir!" Four's chin lowered slightly as he spoke with a slightly softer tone. "Sir, which fighter am I to pilot, sir?"

"Sir, which fighter am I to pilot, sir?"

James lifted his head out of his fighter or a moment.

"Ah, you must be the newbie." He said with a smile, "At ease. We don't stand on formality in the 501st Ensign." James jumped out of the cockpit and strode up to Four, shaking his hand. "You have an impressive record, I requested your transfer myself. But there'll be time to talk later, Four, in a strange twist of fate, you'll be piloting that fighter there, 4." He chuckled lightly. "Now get to the preflight! We're launching as soon as word comes from upstairs! Our mission is to escort the 334 Corsair to dock with the Arcadian command cruiser. Now step to it Ensign!" James slapped the young man's shoulder and then went back to his fighter and strapped in. As soon as the order came, they would be ready to fly. He just hoped the new kid could keep up.

"Welcome to the 501st!" Jacob called. "Finest fighting squad you'll ever fly with!"

Four saluted again. "Hardly, sir!" He waited for the commander to settle into his own fighter before he began walking towards fighter 4. Four's brows furrowed as he mumbled to himself, "What does he mean by 'a twist of fate' that I'll be piloting 4?"
"Now get to the preflight! We're launching as soon as word comes from upstairs!
"Sir!" Four responded, strapping into his fighter. Soon, he had carried out the pre-flight and rested his hands on the controls as the heads up display blinked to life.

    Shield Meets the Doc

“Name’s Dr. Payne. What do they call you?”

Finally, a combatant that could actually grow facial hair. At least there was going to be some experience on this mission. Burns sat next to the doctor and offered his hand.

“I'm Burns, Captain Leonard Burns. People call me Shield though.”

He strapped himself in, doing a quick final check of all his gear from magazines to boot laces. And with one last glance at all the recruits he turned to Doctor Payne and moaned, “So, how did we get stuck with the kindergarten class?”

“So, how did we get stuck with the kindergarten class?” Sheild's moaned.

Doc chukled. "They may not look like much but they kick a**. James over there can fly us through a tornado, Samantha, on top of being hot, pulled my sorry butt out of a hot zone. We were surrounded by a dozen Arcadians, but she got us out of there...with the a wound the size of a golf ball in her side. Here I thought I was going to be the one saving her." Doc laughed.
"Aside from the newbie that just came over, this is a great team. One of the best. And you won't find a better Doc to stitch you up in a pinch either." He tapped the medical kit on his lap pridefully.

    Shield's instincts

“Good to have an experienced medic on board but as for your team, I think I’ll wait until I call them ‘great’.” He rolled up his sleeve to reveal a long thin scar slicing across his ink.

“The last ‘great’ team gave me this, and apart from you and the pilots from the 501st, i don’t see much to ‘em.”

Burns sat back and laughed a little, his nostalgia flashing images of his injuries to his mind. The knife wound down into the shoulder had been the worst, thanks to some plucky Arcadian rebel on the Trecca colony. Shield had got his own back with the same weapon.

“Believe me Doc, I want nothing more than to be wrong.” He said, returning to the real world. “But when you’ve seen as much action as I have, you tend to have sixth sense about these things.”

The Ecthelion's course was perfectly calibrated so that they would come out of hyperspace just behind the Arcadian fleet. Once they spotted the Arcadians, the ship had initiated a tactical jump to close range. And in about two minutes they'd be droping out, springing a trap on their unsuspecting prey.

In the flight deck, a series of orders were being broadcast to the pilots, and at the same time a loud speaker blared, "Prepare for Hyperspace deceleration."

"Looks like it's go time!" James called to his team, then slid his cockpit closed.

"501st, launch in 2 minutes and counting." The flight controller radioed to the whole squad.

Aboard the 334 Corsair, the pilots received a similar message.

"Alright ladies! Get ready, we're rolling out it 2 minutes! Expect a hot landing!" The pilot called back into the hold, then closed the loading doors and pressurized the compartments. A few moments later there was the stretching sensation of dropping out of hyperspace, followed by every red light on the ship beginning to shine.

The Ecthelion dropped out right on target, directly behind the Arcadian command cruiser and it's escort. Their fleet was made up of two Destroyer class with their frigate support, and the command carrier. The Ecthelions main guns powered up and fired two bursts each at the two destroyers. They hadn't had time to get their shields up. One's reactor was hit, blasting the ship in half. The other took a hit to it's engines, and another to the bridge. It was for all intents immobilized with the command crew likely dead.

James checked his launch timer, 20 seconds.

"Alright, keep in tight formation around the dropship. Nothing gets through, understood?" He radioed to his squad. "Hear me newbie? Keep it tight and precise." 10 seconds.

All around them fighter squadrons and bomber wings were launching, heading out to take care of the last of the destroyers escorts.

"And here we go!" The dropship pilot shouted as the heavy craft lifted off the flight deck and glided towards the energy field separating it from open space.

"Launch!" James shouted to the 501st, and the four fighters screamed to life, lifting off and soaring out into open space, just ahead of the drop ship.

The command cruiser was about 50 clicks away, it loomed large before them, but it was dwarfed in comparison to the Ecthelion. The drop ship followed it's flight plan, making a beeline for the Arcadian ship, and the 501st flew cover for it.

"I got fighter wings coming in! 7, no 8 contacts!" Susanna called over the radio.

"Alright, break off and engage! Keep them from getting to the drop ship!" James called before pulling his fighter into a sharp turn and making for he incoming contacts.

"Hang on tight, we got bogies incoming." The pilot of the drop ship shouted, then revved up the ships auto turrets.

You are were an ordinary civilian. How would an ordinary civilian react? Four's days in training flashed before him. Oh, that's right. Panic. "Oh god! There's so many of them! What do I do?" Four's monotone voice responded on the radio as he calmly brought one of the enemy fighters to the center of his crosshairs and applied pressure to the trigger. Next. "Oh god oh god what's happening?" 4's cannons blazed to life again, each flash lighting Four's stolid face. "I am panicking."

    Doc Payne

Doc held on to his medical bag smiling as the shuttle began it's approach to the Arcadian fleet. Many of the shuttles passengers looked nervous. Likely because they were either new to the boarding party team or remembering one of the common nightmares among the crew. Being shot out of space and burning up in the atmosphere. He'd had the nightmare as well. But that was all it was. A nightmare.
This was real life. With James and the 501st escorting them, they would be perfectly fine. The sounds of explosions outside signaled the crew that their escort were engaged in combat. The shuttle shook slightly from a nearby explosion.

"Now don't forget 'ol Doc is aboard this vessel." Doc laughed into his headpeice at James and the rest of the 501st. "You wouldn't want to be losing a mighty fine doctor even afore the fight began now would you?"

    James

"Oh god oh god what's happening?"

He heard over his radio from Four. "Newbies got a mouth on him I see." He chuckled. Then he saw two contacts vanish off the radar. "But he more than makes up for it. Keep it up Four!" This kid has some serious skills.

James had an enemy on his tail, but he pushed his ship into a tight turn and ended up sliding past his pursuer at and angle, lighting him up as he went. The Arcadian fighter detonated a few moments later. He blasted his afterburners and caught up behind Jacob who was trying to lose another Arcadian. A blip showed up behind him as well, and a few shots streaked past.

"Susanna! Can you get rid of this guy?"

"Negative sir, dealing with one of my own!"

    "Alright. Hang on... Jacob, Pinwheel!"

"You got it boss!" They flew in opposite arcs, then angled their ships inward, spinning around the fighter between them like a pinwheel, catching it in a crossfire. Then Jacob did a loop, landing behind James pursuer and blasting him away.

There were two fighters left. "Four, help out Susanna!" She was flying the number 3 ship and in trouble on the other side of the drop ship, closer to Four.

James and Jacob pulled around to take care of the last fighter.

The drop ship was approaching the Command Cruiser, just another click. They were aiming for the docking bay, but as they drew closer the blast doors slammed shut.

"Looks like we're going with plan B!" The pilot grunted. "Command, docking bay doors are closed, moving in for hull penetration."

"Negative 334," Came the response. "Tactical bomber squad incoming. Hold tight!" A few moments later a three friendly blips showed up on the radar. A wing of Halcyon Tactical Bomers swooped into view, each packing a high yield magnesium bombs, armor melters. Other bomber wings had already knocked out the ships jump drives and flak cannons. It's main guns were still active, and firing away at the Ecthelion, but it's heavy shields and defense lasers were stopping anything from getting through.

The Halcyon Bombers swung in front of the dock doors launching their payloads. A few moments later there was a hole large enough in the blast doors for the 334 to enter. As it flew in, several explosions rocked it. The docking bay had anti boarding cannons mounted inside, and there was infantry with rocket launchers barricaded around the perimeter.

"Small potatoes." The pilot chuckled. The auto guns were already making short work of the cannons, and he sprayed the deck with the ships mounted machine guns. They took care of most of the resistance. He set the ship down and opened the loading bay doors.

A sergeant stood up an checked his gun. "Here we go marines! Move out!" The members of the boarding party started unloading form the ship, and immediately came under fire from the Arcadian survivors. One or two went down right away, but the rest managed to make it to cover and began returning fire.

    "Four, help out Susanna!"
"I can not comply, sir. I am panicking, sir." Repeat. Four centered the remaining fighters on his HUD and opened fire, observing them explode without batting his eye. "I am now in shock, sir. Excuse me while I breathe into a bag. Sir." Four lifted a paper bag to his face and breathed normally, air flowing easily past the bag affixed to his forehead.

    Shield gives 'em hell

Quick as a flash Shield dived out of the cargo bay and rolled over to some metallic boxes for cover. A slight glance over the top gave him all the information he needed. There were stragglers from the resistance, maybe eight or nine, but thankfully all cannons were out of action.

Shield threw his weapon on top of the crate and squeezed the trigger. The heavy machine gun roared to life, slicing through the rebels cover and forcing them to cower. Bullet shells cascaded from the weapon as the blaring noise continued. And now all attention was on Shield, their weapons were firing at Shield. Perfect.

Staying low he soldiered on, trigger clenched down and bullets spraying everywhere. Now was the time for the ‘great’ team to prove themselves and have the common sense to flank the enemy.

But as he knelt low behind his cover getting peppered by all sorts, Shield could not shake the feeling that this was all a bit too easy. Darker thoughts unsettled him further before a ricochet clipped his gun, forcing him low once more.

The Arcadians were pushed back by the ferocity shown by the boarding party. A few fell to Shields weapon spray before they could get to cover. The rest fell back and started trying to bring the tank down. They finally forced him to take cover, but by that time the rest of the boarding party was already out and moving in to flank the Arcadians.

"Move move!" The Arcadians fought back, taking down a few of the boarders, but in a few minutes they would be overrun.

    James

"I am now in shock, sir. Excuse me while I breathe into a bag. Sir."

"Alright squad, Four is a little odd... Maybe I should have checked his psych report a little closer. But you're a damn fine pilot, I'll give you that." James responded. He'd have to talk to Four afterwards about radio protocol. They'd mopped up the last few fighters, and it didn't look like there were anymore incoming.

"Status, everyone okay?" James asked his squad.

"Good here sir." Susanna called in.

    "And here." Jacob responded.

    "Good. Are we all clear?"

"Looks like. No incoming signatures, Ecthelion reports area secure." Susanna responded. She was tactics and recon. Jacob took care of loadouts and heavy weapons, his ship was modified to hold higher yield weaponry.

"Boarding party, what's your status?" James radioed to the drop ship.

"So far so good 501st. We could use some help if you're offering though."

"Roger that." James replied. "Susanna, Jacob. Stay space side and guard the ship. Me and Four will go in to provide assistance to the boarding party."

"Why do you guys get to have all the fun?" Jacob asked.

"Because I need you two out here to guard the ship in case of any surprises." James responded, then took his fighter down into the ship's hold. A few stray bullets ricocheted off it's armor, nothing to be worried about though. "Keep our ride safe! Four, you with me?" He landed behind a stack of crates then unbuckled himself from his fighter and jumped out, landing next to a big soldier with shiny tattoos.

"Hows it hanging hoss?" James cracked before jumping up from behind the crates and taking out an Arcadian with a head shot while he was distracted by the others flank.

    Four

    "Four, you with me?"
Four's hands instantly returned to the controls as he swung his ship towards the command cruiser. "Roger, sir." Moments later, 4 was gracefully sliding through the entire landing bay, sweeping aside crates and Arcadians alike. The crooked fighter's portal popped neatly open and expelled the pilot who landed nimbly on top of a crawling Arcadian and promptly snapped his neck with a swift kick. Four turned towards James, bag still plastered against his forehead, and saluted. "Objective, sir?"

"Stay calm. It's only a flesh wound." Doc said to one of the boarding technicians who'd been hit. He'd managed to drag him back into the transport ship with the help of one of the soldiers. Doc Payne tightly wrapped a bandage on the wound before administring a small dose of tranquilizer.
The terrified technician thrashed for a few more minutes before relaxing as the tranquilizer kicked in.
"There ya go? Not so bad? You're hardly bleeding." Doc smiled, though in reality the technician would likely need to move as minimally as possible for the next week.
He'd checked the other boarders who'd gone down almost immediatly. They were already dead. Instant, minimal suffering. Best way to go.

    James

    "Objective, sir?"

"Why is there a bag on your forehead..." Did I miss something in his psych report? He wondered to himself. "Nevermind. We need to get to the bridge! Provide support for the boarding team!" James ordered, then picked off an Arcadian straggler who was coming up behind Four. "Watch your flanks newbie!"

The docking bay looked like it was clear, and the party started moving towards the bridge. James took a spot in the rear.

"How we doing doc?" He said to Doc Payne. "Ready to stitch us up?"

"How we doing doc?" He said to Doc Payne. "Ready to stitch us up?"
Doc laughed as he slipped the medical bag onto his back and readied his gun. "When am I never ready?"

"Bag, sir? What-" Four reached up and touched his forehead. As his fingers contacted the papery surface, he frowned, shrugged. "Oh. There's a bag on my head."

"Bet you a week's pay newbie gets shot first." Doc said to James as he guestured with his head to Four.
