Speech to text for script formatting

Discussion in 'AI Writing Tools' started by roalho, Jun 18, 2023.

I've been working on using AI from an angle other than generating content and have found it could be an incredibly useful way to "format your thoughts". A struggle I've always had is coming up with ideas for my scripts when I'm out and about and not being able to capture them, or having a loose idea that gets lost as soon as I sit down and am bound by rigidity of the keyboard.

I've managed to get a proof of concept working for this if anyone here would be willing to try it out for me? It would be useful to see what the output is like and how it could be refined. The idea is that you start recording and just describe your scene and your characters, you act out the dialogue and speak out the action. Once you're finished, the AI formats it for you and displays it on screen (in the future, ready to format). You can then export as .txt or copy and paste into whatever screenwriting software you use (it keeps the formatting when pasted to WriterSolo for example).

I'd be particularly keen to hear from any writers with accessibility needs and how something like this could help with their writing workflows.

You can try it on [link deleted by moderator] just now. It shouldn't change your dialogue at all, but may embellish scenes that you've described if they're lacking (this is to let you focus on the dialogue). The intent is not to provide you with a finished screenplay, or write your story for you, it's just about formatting and getting to editing as quickly as possible. Let me know how you get on :)

What happens to the recorded speech? Is a sum of money kept aside in case a user finds their work cropping up in ai-written material elsewhere? Or how else can a user be sure they're not being used to train an AI?

Reasonable question! It's all deleted. I don't store anything and OpenAI don't use data from API calls to train their data.

With the full application you'll be able to store the results like with any cloud storage but with this demo it's all just temp data that goes once you refresh the page.

If you're up for trying it I'd not even suggest you use scripts you're working on. Just make up a small story off the top of your head or retell something existing to see how it handles and transcribes it.
