    I'm Daphnes

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Daphnes, Mar 31, 2008.

When I was younger, I loved to read. Especially in the car, when there wasn't much else to do on trips besides listen to whatever music my parents wanted to listen to, watch the scenery as I traveled, or read a book. I never bought a walkman, and didn't buy a gameboy until a little later on.

Anyway, I loved to read, and use my imagination to put myself, or a character of my imagination, into a book I was reading. I'd also do this with cartoons and such. I have often toyed with the idea of writing a book series good enough that some people would enjoy it. Maybe even get it published by some company and make money off of writing.

Even though I have ideas in my head, I can't ever decide on what kind of story I'd like to write, or how to convey my thoughts as eloquent;y as the authors of my favorite books.

My last favorite book series was Animorphs by K.A. Applegate. It was very good, and very memorable. I don't really like how the series ended, but it ended many years ago.

I thought I'd join a creative writing board and get some ideas on how to make realistic characters and interesting plots. I could probably use some help on every aspect of book writing. I think those people that many millions on books they write are actually the exception to the rule, but I'd be happy if just a small group of people liked work I did enough that they'd eagerly await chapter updates every week, or however I was putting out the book.

Nowadays, I drive myself around, and don't read as much, but I have been reading a few books from series of Ice and Fire, and Maximum Ride. I don't know who the authors are. I think the last name of the Maximum Ride books is Patterson.

A couple of years ago I went to the library and got the Animorphs books I hadn't read. I was somewhat disappointed. :\

Why were you disappointed? Was it the ending, or something else that disappointed you?

Hello Daphnes, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

I read them when I was really young, and I thought they were really well written and interesting. When I went through again, they were poorly written, boring and didn't seem to have very much redeeming value.

Thanks for telling me that. I would think that to properly review something, I'd have to become good at it myself. Though I will read some stuff and review it before posting any stories.

James! Yes, that's the guy. He writes good books. Especially if you don't mind bittersweet endings.
