I've set myself deadlines in the past to write a novel, but actually there is no urgency, so in the back of mind I'm happy plodding along as long as I finish before I'm dead. However, a recent situation has meant reconsidering this (I.e. Discussions about a baby). Has my deadline become suddenly shorter? Will a child eat up my time or give me the kick up the backside I need?
I don't have children myself but I thought I would answer. By the way, I hate children so this may be biased. Children are like small pets. They require a lot of work, and I mean a lot. When you're not looking after them you'd be sleeping, eating or dead. You'd barely have any time, maybe an hour a day at the very best.
Ooooh boy. The first few months you may find you have ample spare time, if you child is a good sleeper and of a generally happy disposition. If not, you're in for a bumpy ride. As they get older though, they sleep less and require more entertaining. Your time ceases to be your time and becomes their time. And you know what? You won't even care!
