    What never gets posted

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Wreybies, Sep 11, 2009.

I often find myself posting a response to a thread, sometimes paragraphs long, only to decide at the end that, nope, I don't wanna' post that.

The reasons I clear the post are endless, so no need to go into that here (unless you feel like doing so in your replies).

    So, you ever do this?

    Sure.

I will write the post and decide - nah that will create so much drama or they really don't need to hear that.

Hah, I was wondering when this would appear. :D

I generally only take something out of my posts if I feel it's going to offend someone.

Or if I type how I'd LIKE to respond to something as a stress relieving exercise. :p

I had a good reply to this typed up, but... Yeah, it happens every once in a while.

    I do this very frequently.

My reasons for typing and then deleting a post are usually either this or that I start typing a response that seems relevant only to have it end in some long, rambly, boring manner. Then, of course, there is the occasional "will this get me banned?" post.

Oh God, Wrey, I do this all of the time. I don't know why, I just often write one out and then not post it. :D

If I'm understanding you, you write what you think you want to say and then don't post it, right? I do that for all kinds of reasons, I'd say almost half my ramblings never make it beyond my personal screen, although sometimes I'll copy and keep something or other in a private file, which allows something I've said a "time-out" (just to be sure I really want to post it for someone else to read). I don't think I've ever gone back to read any of these (I'm sure I have hundreds by now), although I do sometimes rewrite from scratch the next day, if it seems important to me to try and say something better. Writing opinions and feedback and such helps me sort out my own thoughts, and sometimes those thoughts just aren't right for any particular audience but me.

Sometimes I begin a post, then decide to leave the response to someone else.

Sometimes it's because I've posted the same response so many times I think, "Why bother?"

Sometimes it's because I know someone else will reply with a better answer (and I often know who it will be.

Sometimes I know I'm pissed off, and I decide I should cool off first.

    Hah! ;)

Yeah... I delete my posts often usually because I'm sure it will end up pissing someone off, or I just am not in the mood to argue my point anymore. I love this forum for the intellectual and (usually) civil discussions, and for the fact that most users are unusually friendly. However, as we are all writers... I find myself dissecting others' posts at times, and I dont post my own thoughts to avoid the same unposted but still harbored criticisms. :D

. . . all the time. I find myself very opinionated about many of the stories I read in the review section but at the same time, feel honored and privileged to be immersed in such creativity wholely lacking in my ordinary life. So I'm careful to treat it well. :)

This just made me think...you know, in an alternate universe, you did post all those things.

I rarely write a post and then delete it before posting. Probably because I think about it before I put the time into a response (If what I have to say will add to the discussion, if I am knowledgeable on the topic. But then, the majority of my posts are focused on answering questions writers have. On occasion I will participate in a discussion topic that isn't directly related to writing, but not as much as I might like. I don't have loads of time.

Often I do delete and/or alter parts before the final version appears.

Strange how the threads one expects to roll off, unnoticed, into the oblivion of page 6 manage to strike a cord.

hahaha....You see, this is why La Chim, doesn't post a lot of what she writes. There is a little Cog voice in the back of my mind that says." This isn't forum approved"

I have never been banned, don't want to be either. So I have to be creative, there are always other ways to get the message across. ;)

I often type out a post, usually to one of the advice threads, and then I shorten it or change it because I'm so nervous about offending on such a delicate topic.

    All the time actually.

Sometimes I will have written out a large response to something. Even checked on a few things and facts. It will be several paragraphs long and when I get to the end I simply delete it. Usually its because I think it would just go unnoticed or I would only stir unneeded drama. Sometimes I find myself doubting what I have to say.

Sometimes I will have written several paragraphs, decide I don't like them, and rewrite them. Usually its when I don't like how something is phrased or something I no longer wish to say. Sometimes they are small edits while other times I start from scratch. Though when I do smaller edits I have noticed that the odd word or words will still remain. Even a few sentences. Which will often lead to some confusion :p
