What are some movies you've seen recently that you'd recommend? I'm always on the lookout for new movies to try and I often like recommending them, too, so I thought it might be cool to have a movie recommendation thread. Some recent ones I'd recommend are- - Blood Diamond - just an incredible story. Very violent, but excellent if you can cope with the emotion in it - Dream Girls - probably more of a girly movie, though it's quite dramatic and sad - Transformers - very well directed and good acting - 300 - incredible directing and special effects. A very nice story, too. Though, the inaccuracies would annoy you if you've studied Sparta That's all I can think of for now
Heres a few I've recently watched I've rated them as 5 excellent and 1 crap. Shooter 5/5 Fly Boys 100/100 Bloody brilliant film if for the visuals of the planes dog fighting. Next 4/5 Die Hard 4.0 4/5 Spiderman 3 5/5
Spiderman 3 was too long in the end. By the time it ended, everyone in the cinema was like, THANK GOD! It was good, don't get me wrong, but there were some parts that just went on for too long, as if the people making it were like, we HAVE to make this a reallly long movie. But it was ok. Now recomendations: Transformers. Die Hard 4.0 was cool. .....Now I'm trying hard to think of movies.... Havn't really been watching much latley.
My top 3 movies, that I never seem to get tired of. 1. The Fountain - Holy God. I can't stress how much you need to see this film. I can see why it's not popular. It requires some thinking. But it will blow your mind. 2. A Beautiful Mind - Great movie. Will make you appreciate other people a little more. 3. Black Hawk Down - The first war movie where I really feel attached to all the characters. Where they really have.. feelings, and stuff.
I think on the whole, Spiderman 3 was a huge flop. No one I know liked it and it got some terrible ratings. Despite being a huge John McLane fan, I'm ashamed to admit I still haven't seen the fourth Die Hard. Heard excellent things about the Fountain, I really should see it. I have the soundtrack actually and the music itself is absolutely incredible. Have never seen a Beautiful Mind, I don't know if I would ever be able to make myself sit down and watch it, I just can't seem to watch movies like that. Same with Black Hawk Down. I constantly hear good things, but I can't imagine myself enjoying it.
Black Hawk Down is an Exception. I too love that film for how it portays the events. A Beautiful Mind was a good film but I couldn't watch it a second time. As for Spiderman 3 it wasn't much of a flop here but then the first and second i really didn't like. Die Hard 4 is good no doubt there. I absolutly hated the fountain. I found it boring and drawning. Next is good and the ending is unexpected. As for Fly Boys hell thats worth checking out. The air battles and camera imagery alone make that film a must but the fights are wow. And the storyline was written by someone who could write on true events. Some sad moments especially when they lose the tiger. And Shooter was well written well acted and good all round. Best for a saturday night viewing though.
The problem with Spiderman 3 was they crammed too much into it - 3 villians, two of whom were brand new to the series and therefore had to be developed from scratch. On top of that they added a triangle between Peter, Mary Jane, and Gwen Stacy. When all was said and done, it made for shallow, rushed character development. Still, the Spidey combat scenes had that whirlwind precision that was pure thrill.
Spider man was all dazzle, with no depth. Like fools gold. Shooter is an awesome movie, I rate it highly. American History X is gruesome and brutal, but a good watch, and quite enlightening. With a capital E what's more.
Dr. Strangelove, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. You know, if you're into that kinda thing.
August Rush - its still in theatres but it is a really really good movie. I absolutely love it. I know Pirates of the Caribbean are a big hit (i love them). The third one just came out on DVD this past Tuesday. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix comes out on Tuesday... Um, I watched The Notebook last night....that was really good. I cried. It was mentioned before and I'm going to mention it again....TRANSFORMERS! I loved that movie. But that's all I can think of right now....
I'd recommend Letters from Iwo Jima. It is a world war 2 film, directed by Clint Eastward, from the Japanese point of view. I was in floods of tears by the end of it, it was so moving.
Yeah. One word Crud. And Pirates of the Caribean 3 At Worlds End also lacked. I found the film rubbish. It felt as though a load of actors had gotten together dressed up and played lets have a doss about. And were the hell did the plot go. Still i really did like one part of the film THE CREDITs couldn't have come sooner either.
I saw a very interesting and hilarious movie called Lars and the Real Girl starring Ryan Gosling which I think would be worth checking out if you can. The movie 'Scarecrow' staring Gene Hackman and Al Pacino was awesome... the acting was flawless, of course.
I wanted to see Children of Men when it was in the cinemas but still haven't gotten around to it, even though it's on DVD. I loved Pirates 3, it made me laugh more than the first two and I thought it was very well done. I'd also like to see Scarecrow, I've heard good things about it. Another one I would recommend is the Holiday, just a really nice, feel-good movie. Sin City is another masterpiece, as is Brokeback Mountain, though many wouldn't agree. I also love the Wrong Man (Lucky Number Slevin is the American title). It's similar to the Departed, but I think it's better.
