What are the Rules to follow when writing with an accent?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by grnidone, Apr 13, 2009.

Your character has a heavy accent from somewhere else.

How do you incorporate this into your writing? When it is proper to do so? Is it *ever* proper to do so? Can you use misspellings or phrases?

Is it better to denote that the character is "from somewhere else" with their dialoge using misspellings or other various methods, or better to do so with descriptions only?

What are the general rules for doing this?
