I just need a couple brands that might have been available in general stores during this period, particularly in the Midwest, Tennessee, Kentucky, but anywhere else would be fine too. Thanks.
You might look into A&D ointment. I can't find when it was first put on the market, but you can work on that. It was around by the 1950s, that's for sure.
I'm pretty sure there are old Sears & Roebuck's catalogs on line that you can access. The hitch is that you need to do it through ancestry.com, but if you don't subscribe to it, you may be able to find a public library or genealogy-minded friend who does subscribe, and use their access. (I used the California state library.) IIRC, the catalogs marketed all sorts of home remedies. Here's a list provided by Sears on who has their old catalogs online: http://www.searsarchives.com/catalogs/questions/findcatalogs.htm
Thank you very much. I was able to access at least some of the ancestry Sears catalogs even though I'm not a subscriber, and it looks like it has enough information.
http://www.wishbookweb.com/the-catalogs/ Might be helpful? Free, no need to register but they are Xmas oriented. Good resource for how people dressed in the past.
