What would you say in this particular scenario?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by MatrixGravity, Apr 9, 2011.

I posted a question on Yahoo Answers in the wordplay section because I needed help understanding some terms I wasn't familiar with, and somebody wrote "Stop asking stupid questions. Get a hobby."

What would you personally say in this situation? Thank you

Stop posting just to be unhelpful. Get a hobby.

Now if anyone else would like to help me?

(I'm a bit confrontational at times though) :D

If your character is like that, then the stranger the question the better:

'If you had a tail, what would you do with it?'

'Did you enjoy your breakfast this morning?'

'What day were you born on?'

    ect.

Thats what I would honestly say, along with a lot of my MCs. It is an honest reply for me.

It is serious - to respond I personally think is silly - why create bad feeling with someone on the internet that has no serious impact on your life. However if you must - you are going to make yourself look better and them look siller if you give a humour filled response.

I would ignore their reply. Trolls do not deserve attention.

Me personally, just roll my eyes and ignor their responce. If it kept going then perhaps I would become witty, but then again, my mouth just gets me into trouble.

Make up your mind. But in my opinion, a "witty" response is stooping to their rather juvenile level. Why engage in a battle of wits against an unarmed foe?

Not going to Yahoo for answers to anything more complicated than how to tie one's shoes would be my first suggestion. But even then you'd get nasty replies.

i'd say nothing... responding will only bring on more idiotic abuse... don't encourage nitwits... or do you really want to descend to that level?

I agree with this. Don't bother with a response. Acknowledging his response will do nothing but encourage him to respond back. This is the internet. You're not face to face with someone. Everyone is Mr. Anonymous in front of a giant crowd. People will be jerks on the net because they can do so without fear of punishment.

Honestly, it's situations like the OP described that make me feel like we would be better off living in barbarian tribes. People weren't rude to others for fear of getting their skulls cleaved by a sword.;)

There's room to be witty but it borders on insulting. At the end of the day, that person moves on with their life as you do. If you let that comment get to you then he wins.

You're asking another question! Ok, so this was a guy trolling - but maybe he has a point. Asking too many questions can be bad for your personal growth. My solution? Think for yourself for once - come up with your own witty response or don't bother answering. You learn the gift of the gab by practising, not asking others to bail you out.

I wouldn't worry about it. The internet is full of idiots, don't let them get under your skin. Just ignore them. If you respond the whole thing will turn in to a pointless internet argument that will just waste your time, anger you and not give you any answer to the question you originally asked.

Please don't resurrect older discussion threads, especially such generic ones with no immediate relevance.

It's not what we might write but what your reply would be if any. Some say to ignore dickweeds but I say not to give all a free pass. Let some help you hone your writing skills.

It's the context that matters. Stated in humor to "Go find a hobby?" No worries.

But the two commands when added does have that tweak of ridicule...Still no worries. No shortage of ridiculing dickweeds in the world and life can be a whole lotta fun if you learn how poke some of them with a stick. Kinda like a wind-up toy to be played with until you grow weary of their repetitive nature. Then just lace-up up your literary boot and swiftly...Oh ever so swiftly, place it where the sun doesn't shine.

BTW My hobby...I'm an axe murderer. Can't tell you how much exercise I get nor the enjoyment such a hobby brings.

But be mindful of your words, it's often the second retort which draws the flag if done vagrantly. Such is life when you wield an axe even if the blows are well deserved.

Here's a few at no charge for practice...

I'm sorry you feel that way. Perhaps if you took a break and sat on the commode for a bit it would relieve your constipation. (Sympathy followed by a mere suggestion and any further comments can be ignored. You have won.)

Perhaps! But that's Mr./Mrs./Sir/Lord/King/Queen Stupid to you!:) (With humor you have placed yourself above the dickweed's mentality and any further addresses will come from beneath you. Your now rule.)

Sorry, just looking for a stupid answer...It a hobby I have. Trying to ID the dickweeds here and we have a winner! (Apology, an answer and you probably have isolated the dickweed. Unlikely anyone wants to try win that game.)

Sorry, this thread came up on the Similiar Threads for another thread I was reading. Had no idea it would generate one from almost two years ago! It was only once I'd replied that I realised it was such an old thread.
