    “Pearla”

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by OurJud, Jan 31, 2022.

I can’t find any reference to this expression, not even in the Urban Dictionary, and am starting to wonder if I’ve imagined it.

It’s used sarcastically and is slang/an abbreviation for ‘Pearls of wisdom’. It’s said when you want to mock someone for making an obvious or stupid remark, as in, “Ooh, another pearla from the village idiot over here! Got any more bright ideas, Einstein?”

Am I confusing this with something else?

As far as I can tell, it's primarily Aussie slang for something great; a misspelling of "pearler" (??).

Need someone from Down-Under to elucidate.

Pearler... of course! If I’d spelt it like that when I was using it, we wouldn’t be having this discussion now. It looks correct spelt like this.

    Thanks.

LOL - don't take my word for it! That's just from a quick Google.

No, as soon as I saw it it looked right. And as soon as I searched it with that spelling, I found reference to it with the relative definition. Australian in origin, as you said.
