hi. so i'm two days new to the site and i read the rules, and it mostly all makes sense. except i would like to know a few things: "You must own the copyright to all work claimed your own." - is on there, and i'm wondering if everyone actually does own their copyrights for their works in the writing workshop, if so, how is that done? also it says you should NEVER use your real name.. only my first name is real, and kana is not. is this acceptable? lastly, how does the site know you've made at least two critiques in the writing workshop? thanks. because this site doesn't have a greetings thread, i wanted to say hi and post a short story, so people know me better.
Re the first question, in most countries you immediately and automatically own the copyright on everything you write. The rule doesn’t mean that you must register copyright.
@nyko kana We do have a new members thread where you can introduce yourself! https://www.writingforums.org/new-member-introductions/ But yeah chickenfreak is right about copyright!
Oh and I forgot to mention, the two reviews in the workshop thing seems to work on an honour system, though if you have a very low post number staff might check to see if you've done that, I believe its happened a few times.
What CF said about copyright is true. You don't have to register copyright, but you should still automatically have copyright on everything you write. The rule is there to avoid plagiarism and uploading others' work on request. That you should not use your own name is a recommendation rather than a hard rule. Since we don't delete accounts whatever you post on here will be here forever. If your account is named after you it means that those posts can be linked to you in e.g. Google searches. The first two critiques are tracked automatically and you will get posting privileges in the workshop automatically when you meet all requirements.
