Which is a shame, she was so much fun. I'll miss her bold and italic emphasis. I guess @Aire was her sock puppet, or she was Aire's, either way they're banned. Input from the mods?
I always try to be nice and polite and obey the rules but seeing someone banned makes me nervous. (Bows down to almighty mods) Please accept me! I didn't really know Adreamer, I think I saw a few of her posts. Either way I will morn her. Moment of silence. .....
The rules are clear that sock puppet accounts will be immediately banned, all accounts involved. I'm interested to know how the reveal happened. It was fairly obvious that the persons who had the same writing style; bold and italics for emphasis and brackets instead of parenthesis; were the same person. But I like to imagine that there was a slip of the tongue, or an outright boast that the account was a sock puppet. I like to imagine that if I were banned there would be a small memorial for me. So let us morn a bit for someone that was entertaining and engaging, but just made some stupid mistakes.
On some forums, mods can check the IP address. Admin can, at least. That's often how people are found out. I had her on my ignore list anyway, so no loss there.
ADreamer and Aire are banned. We do have the ability to see IP addresses and they were not only sounding identical, they posted from the same IP address. They were both starting to accumulate a lot of reports from the membership, mostly due to their dismissive attitude towards anyone who disagreed with them. They treated everyone else here like small children, and themselves like they were the only adults on the forum. They insisted on laying down the law about any and every subject under the sun without providing sources for any of their so-called information. They didn't contribute much to the forum except annoyance, strife, and bother. I certainly won't miss them.
I'm still new, but I'd be happy to apprentice to someone more established. Maybe in a few years, I can step in when they get banned.
Wait, suppose my wife starts an account here, does we get banned for having the same IP? Maybe Aire married someone exactly like her/his self?
Obviously I have no idea for certain, but I'dimagine if you let the staff know, then they may allow it. Something along those lines happened to me and some friends in high school. We joined a gaming forum and would use the computer lab at lunch. One day seven of us were banned for IP sharing. It never even occurred to us to mention it, although I can't say for certain that it would matter.
Of course not. T.Trian and Katrian, our Finnish Mod couple, post from the same IP and they are not only not banned, they are mods. Sock-puppetry is more than just posting from the same IP, it's a mode of engaging the forum and a manner of behavior.
In one thread, Aire posted something about an uncle. In another thread, ADreamer said "as I said about my uncle in that thread..." So yeah, same person, not just a couple sharing a computer.
Who refer to each other as "I"? Soooo many issues there. We could write a book about 'em. Edit: X-post with Steerpike. We do that a lot.
It does make me wonder why though. Like what was the point of having a sock puppet account. As far as I saw she kept her identities separate on separate threads. It's not like she made an account that would agree with her. There doesn't seem to be any reason behind it.
There is no accounting for the human mind. We are as different, one from another, as a puppy is from a pogo-stick. The identical orthography was the card that should have been held closer. The IP was the smoking gun. Why the person should do such a thing? Who can say. Boredom. A need to be seen as the person they projected themselves to be. There was a rather central theme to all of the person's posts that intelligence arouse with his/her birth and will die along with him/her.
I did see "them" agreeing with "each other" in a couple of threads. Overall, who knows? Maybe s/he honestly has a split personality.
Regardless, "they" are no longer with us. From time to time members feel a need to feel like they've "gotten one over" on the staff and it's such a fruitless venture. If you "pull the wool over my eyes" so well that I never suspect, then frankly I do not care because what it means is that you've done a stonking job of obeying the rules in order to fly under my radar. And all I care about is that members abide by the rules. We have had members who were banned in the past attempt a reentry into the forum, and again, if they never raise my suspicions then they are, by default, obeying the rules of behavior and that's all I ever wanted. I win.
