I don't know if anyone here ever saw Tim's Vermeer. Spoiler Alert: A friend of Penn and Teller makes a copy of a famous painting down to the tiniest detail. At some point during the documentary Tim realizes that he has inexplicably painted an elephant into The Music Lesson. He figured out that there was a chemical getting into the air that was effecting his brain. I'm not comparing my writing to Johannes Vermeer, nor am I Tim Jennison. But I ran into a similar state of confusion when I was trying to write my own take on The Boy Who Cried Wolf (with a unique twist). For some reason, I decided there has to be a murder subplot followed by a character with similar initials and eccentricities as Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks. At the point I just slammed on the breaks and put the story aside. Has anyone else ever noticed something in their writing that just came completely out of left field? And not in a good way. Like someone spiking your chess board with a football and shouting, "Table Nine, your order is up!"
