When the story changed compared to the original project

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by ItalianCri, Mar 20, 2022.

Hi guys, have you ever written a scene and then you realized that it didn't work but it was also a scene connected with other parts, so you inevitably changed them completely and the story changed too?

Pretty much all the time... but then I tend to be more pantser than plotter, so I don't know the whole story until it's writ.

My private detective mystery was originally conceived as an urban fantasy and then a paranormal horror before changing to its current straight iteration.

I think such changes are to be expected as a story evolves. As they say, writing is rewriting.
