Hi, I've been writing a book about a princess of a fictional country who lives with her large extended family, and I've been using FamilyEcho to create a family tree to keep them all straight. However, she's also very proud of her ancestors, whom she can trace back 600 years, and she mentions them often, so I thought it would be a good idea to do a family tree for them, too. Problem is, FamilyEcho only lets you do a certain number of generations, and so do any of the other websites I've found. So does anyone know of a piece of software (I have no idea if software comes in pieces...) that is free (I'm broke) and doesn't have a limit on the number of generations? Thanks in advance.
I'm sorry, I see you're new here, but are you fucking with me? None of that is what I asked for, and it made less and less sense to me as we went on. All I wanted was some software recommendations!
I'm sorry, mate, after this horrific derail and a bit of homework, I've decided you're probably a troll. You have been reported.
The ignore function is a wonderful thing - I had to click it off to see what you were talking about (ive reported it too - with luck the mods are riding to the rescue as we speak) - I actually suspect this may be a bot or an AI... if so we don't need to worry about the rise of the machines any time soon On point ancestry is pretty good, but you can also organise this sort of thing in scriv without needing special software, or use a mind mapping program
Performing a 'net search for "free family tree software" or "free genealogy software" would probably garner better results than asking here. Not knocking the question or anyone who might reply, but a search today would probably provide the most recent information ( so many apps/programs start out free but within weeks or even days becomes a product for which an interested user must pay). Also might be the best way to determine all, if any, limits such as generations, printing, saving/exporting files, etc. Organizational charts are a great alternative, as are mind maps. Even some time-line apps/programs might work.
I did give that a go, but everything I found was very research-oriented and the ones I checked out (such as ancestry.com) didn't look like they'd let me add fictional people. I've had a look at @big soft moose 's link and that actually looks very nice, much more classy than FamilyEcho. Thanks very much for that. Also, big special thanks to @minstrel for getting rid of the troll.
I believe you can add fictional people to ancestry. I've often thrown in fake names, or question marks if I'm unsure about a specific person, so you certainly can add fake names, it just won't register as a real person. Plus, you can go back as far as you need! I've seen member's trees with thousands of people.
