ex con/red neck names?

Hi,

I'm looking for inspiration for 3-4 deep south ex con/red neck names for a short story. I'm trying to avoid obvious sterotypical names ie Bubba etc but if anybody has any suggestions???

You could try checking out the write-a-con website. The names aren't stereotypical - except I did see a Clyde, which always sounds faintly criminal to me.

 

Justin, Donney, Hector, Bob, Joe, Tommy, Jacob.

 

Jim Bob, Joe Bob, Bob Tom, Joe Don, Jor-El, Moose. (Okay, one of those might be more deep-space than deep-south.)

 

You want a stereotyped name that doesn't sound stereotyped. Good luck.

Why does the Dukes of Hazard spring to mind? Beau, Luke, Daisy, uncle Jessie, Eonis and Rossco.

Or the Beverly Hillbillies? - Ellie May, Jethro, Jed.

I'm sure there are other shows from that locale you could use.

Perhaps because they're pop-cultural? There's not too many Southerners I know bearing those names.

We're more apt to use Biblical names, but none terribly unusual: Mike, John, Dan, Dave. The OP is probably better off selecting these normal names, and conveying region through a clearer channel, such as dialogue, place-name, and setting.

 

Hank, Jethro, Ross....I can't think of anything good.
