I'm planning to write a story which (hopefully) will end up as a made-for-tv movie. But if not,I'm ok with it as just a story in a novel. I'm planning to write the usual/cliche(?) storyline about a restaurant that sells meat(not necessarily human) to customers which are the ones that people don't usually eat. It could be a horror story or it could just be a detective story with minimum and only necessary gore. What are the usual elements of the story/plot that I should include? I know there would be the murder victims, the cops, the detective, but what else do I need?If I take the usual cannibalism route, then the murder victims would leave behind a trail for the detective to follow. If I don't take the cannibalism route then the murder victims will be those killed to silence the truth behind the restaurant. Any extra tips to enhance/improve the plot is appreciated.
Also what "incidents" do I need to put into the story? There would of course be the investigation, trails left behind by corpses, interviewing the witnesses, probably a car chase, attempted murder on the protagonist. What else do I need?
The answer to this is - whatever you want, whatever your story needs. It's YOUR story not ours. We can't write it for you. You may decide you need a car chase. You may decide you need an attempted murder. You may decide you don't need any of those things. You don't "need" to put anything into your story. It's entirely up to you what you put in.
I'd start by researching/reading books with the same/similar trope. The one I know of is Meat by Joseph D'Lacey: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2222947.Meat
You could also read some articles from 'Horse-gate' here in the UK - a few years ago it was discovered some places were selling horse meat disguised as something else and many people were not too happy when they found out. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_horse_meat_scandal
