    That really good feeling.

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by BrandyTimmons, Dec 2, 2015.

Over the holiday I got a good deal of writing done. I even tried my hand at poetry. (Well, prose.) I can't wait to post in the workshop once I hit 20 posts here. How did everyone else's holiday go?

I'm assuming you are speaking of American Thanksgiving (aka the wrong one :p)? If so, it sucked. You see, American traditions and holidays are slowly creeping their way up into the Great White North. I was pretty hungry on the weekend, as there was no food at home. So I went out.

    For the last time.

I went to a fast-food restaurant (it sucked, so I won't advertise its name). I spent less than two minutes in the drive-thru, but getting to the establishment took about 30 minutes, and another 30 minutes to get home. There were cars EVERYWHERE. Seeing as I never pay attention to holidays that don't really affect me, there was no way I could possibly know that as soon as I turned left out of my street, I'd be stuck in a mass exodus of people trying to find a new way for people to spend their pay cheques.

The worst part? I had to go back out again.

    I'M NOT BITTER AT ALL.

Had a quiet Thanksgiving. The only thing I find annoying is the Black-Friday madness which starts around the time that most people are supposed to be spending with their family. It's slowly becoming Black Thursday or even Last Week Of November.

I agree! Black Friday is taking over the entire holiday. It's sad that on a day we're supposed to be thankful for what we have, we are pushing for what we want.
Acanthopis - Sorry yours sucked! I refuse to go out on holidays for that very reason.

@BrandyTimmons I may have exaggerated myself a bit. :p I just find commercialism run amok to be very annoying (and bad...).

Isn't it grimly hilarious that a day of thanks is followed by one of the most chaotic cesspools of greed in the year? 'Murica!

"Black Friday", "Cyber Monday", Christmas, the St. Stephen's sales, the New Year sales. It's all orgiastic consumerism to the nth degree. I cannot bear it. I'm wiped out and in debt to family due to festive etiquette. Curse and swear.

I've always wondered why they'd put that day right after the day of thanks. Did no one stop to wonder? Of course they didn't, otherwise Black Friday wouldn't occur until at least a week or two after Thanksgiving.

I refuse to get out of the house on that day. And in the weeks leading up to Christmas unless I absolutely have to. It's an all-out war of the consumers as they flock to get everything shiny for their kids. And you know what's the worst thing? Some companies deliberately release only a specific number of products so desperate parents have to just about tear up every store in their city to find that one object because their kid(s) would be crushed if they couldn't have it.

Where's the joy and merriment? Where's the cheer? The charity? Consumerism is making it more and more about money and big bucks than anything else. >:[

I think "they" picked the day after Thanksgiving because most folks - at least those that don't work in retail - have the day off. Thanksgiving used to be the official start of the Christmas season. Now I think it starts sometime in September (or is it July?).

For the past few years, I've gotten out of the house early on Black Friday. But instead of going to the stores, I'd go to Starbucks or take a walk in the park - or both. Places like that are pretty empty because most other folks are either fighting the crowds in the stores or staying home to avoid such things.
