Chasing the Darkness Background: Communal College isn't the biggest college ever. It's not the most expensive college in the world. It dosen't posses the most accolades, hold the most students, and certainly dosen't hold the most prestige. What exactly is it that makes this college so special? During the day, nothing really. At midnight however, the Campus becomes infested with invisible creatures, with everyone else kept in an unwakeable slumber. Only those who possess "awareness" are able to wake up at night and see these creatures. The creatures roam the campus until the midnight hour is over, where they are able to escape the campus and go into the dorms where they will try to feed on the students. Success in doing so would have unpredictable, but ultimately unwanted results on the victim. Those students who possess awareness also have powers with which to fight these creatures with, powers tha are only active in the midnight hour. However destroying these creatures every night isn't a mere act of nobility. Although they can't use their powers during the day, they remain active, and without the ability to control them during the day, their powers would destroy them, unless they destroy the creatures, automaticaly absorbing their energy which they can use to surpress these powers. None of them are quite sure how or why any of this is happening. Their only clue is a teacher named Mr Mac(short for Macdaniels) who despite not having powers, has some awareness of the situation. They must find out within the school year however. According to what little information Mr Mac was able to gather, the bodies of the Aware will only be able to hold these powers for the duration of the school year, then, even with the creaturs energy, their bodies will not be able to hold these powers and they will die. The first few days of school have passed, so the Aware have some fighting experiences and control of their powers. Characters: The Game Master(me) will control the adversaries, Mr Mac, and any other possiby necessary characters. However obviously you get to control your character, who is among "The Aware" Here is the template for creating your character: Name: Appearence: Age: Gender: Backstory: Ability Level 1: Ability Level 2: Ability Level 3: Your characters must have 3 levels of power. Here's an example: Ability Level 1:Can create swords out of shadows Ability Level 2:Can create swords from shadows and use shadows to bind someone Ability Level 3:Can create Swords from Shadows, use shadows to bind people and create explosions anywhere there is a shadow Althogh you don't necessarel have to include more abilities(you could have one ability for each level) Level 1 should be the weakest, Level 2 stronger, and Level 3 the strongest. They should also be connected in some way like the template above. Map: This is a basic(not exactly going to wow art critics but it get's the job done) map. You may have to click on the images in order to see them well enough to read. http://img510.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map1vl8.jpg Note:Scaled down to fit. The buildings are much further apart, same for the dorms. http://img510.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map2fn7.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map3ax9.jpg http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map4fl6.jpg Day Activities: After every scenario during the Midnight hour, there will be one post long day activities. These will have a huge effect on what you are able to do during the Midnight Hour. Although it only takes one post to fill an entire day, these are still veyr important. Every character starts the day with 5 Psyche points. Activites you do or don't do can effect your level of Psyche points. Remmeber those ability levels? Well here's where they come into play. The number of Psyche points you have after the day's end will detirmine your ability level in the Mightnight Hour Secnario: 4-5:Ability Level 3 2-3:Ability Level 2 1-Ability Level 1 Here are the activities that detirmine your Psyche points Classes: You will lose 2 psyche points. However, not going to a class will result in your grade dropping to a B, and so on. If it drops to an F, you flunk out of class and will lose 1 Psyche point by default every day Study: You will lose 1 Psyche point, however it will raise your Grade to an A automatically and allow you to skip a class penalty free. Gym:+ 2 Psyche points, however if done 2 days in a row, you will not be able to go beyond ABility level 2. Partying:Automatically raises Psyche points to 5 however you will lose however many you gained the next day by default School Actvities/Clubs:+3 Psyche point. However if a club meeting or activity is not on the bulletin board, you can't do it Sleep insyche stays unchanged Note:If your Psyche level is at 5, it can't raise but it will be maintained All these activites automatically takes up 4 of your 15 hour day, except classes which take up 7 hours. It's up to you to choose how you spend your day. The bulletin board will be posted after a scenario to show any events taking place. Here is an example of a day activity post: Go to classes:-1 School Activity/Clubs:+1 Sleep in:Maintained Overall psyche ponts:5 One post is that is necessary for day activities. Once all current players have finished their day activity posts, the next Midnight Scenario begins. Midnight Scenario: If this game were a Pizza, this would be the bread. This is where the aciton is and where the plot advances. It will start when I make the initial Scenario post of that scenario. The initial scenario post will generally just portray an event happening, and it is you, the player's, job to react to it. You could ignore it however that just kills the game. Starting out will be prtty linear however as the story progresses, you'll have much more choice in how to start the scenario and more control of the story direction of your character. When the scenario starts, your character MUST be awake, and be aware of something going on(as the school tends to glow green during the midnight hour, and that's something you tend to notice) General Rules: 1. No cheating your Psyche points. I will tally them and if you cheat 3 times, you're out and your character will be killed off in the next scenario. 2.God modding. Now this is a little tricky as what constitutes god modding is not the same for everyone. No selling(i.e an attack either mises your character or your character blocks it and such) is not automaticaly god moding. Since god modding is so tricky, trying to come up with a sentence long explanation on it would be more confusing then anything so I will intiate the 3 strike system. I'll give a warning if I think you're starting to godmod, then another if you continue. The third time you will be removed from the RPG and your character will be killed off in the next scenario. 3.You can not kill a character other then your own. 4.Try to keep your character's actions consistent. Granted I won't remove you from the game for inconsistent characterization but it makes the story better if you're consistent. 5.Don't worry about an authorization post for your character. Unless I make a post saying you can't use that character, consider them official. After a healthy number of posters have joined, the game will start on this very thread. Have fun!
