Greetings! I feel a little silly doing this, but I am working on an article about writers and their plight. I have a noun "amount of rejection," but I'd like an adjective (or two) to describe it. Thus far I have "… a potentially psychologically scarring amount of rejection …" What adjective(s)/adverb(s) would you put in front of "amount of rejection." There's some irony in doing this, I can feel it. Thanks all the same.
"A potentially psychologically scarring amount of rejection." How many rejections is that? And who says whatever this amount is could scar a writer? I don't know. It sounds kind of like you are reaching and making the whole thing more dramatic than it really is. I get rejections all the time. A lot of them. It sucks. But if you start implying in your article that receiving hundreds of rejections is going to potentially leave me psychologically scarred, you better be backing that up some how or you've lost me as a reader.
'potentially psychologcially scarring amount of rejection' is possibly one of the most awkward phrases I've ever tried to wrap my mental tongue around! You could try expanding it into a comical or tragic word picture to illustrate your point: A disheartening pile of rejection notes Enough rejection letters to plaster a wall or two "If every rejection letter can be considered another step towards success, I must be about to become the most successful person on Earth." More rejection letters than I know what to do with Enough rejection letters to make me wonder if I shouldn't have followed my grandfather's advice and become an (insert obscure occupation), after all... The number of tears I have shed over this mountain of rejection letters would qualify me to be a professional mourner
