    Hello

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Plain Pioneer, May 1, 2008.

Hello, my name is Thomas. I love writing a lot. While I mainly write fantasy, I have tried other genre's. I certainly respect every genre, because each has its own special thing about it.

I have been writing a long fantasy book for almost two years now. Its called the Chronicles of Monarth. It is a three book series. Its not extremely long, but still fair long.

I have been mainly working on trying to describe more; two sentences can be described in two pages of words.

Here is something I have been working on for my school contest:

The timeworn castle, sat on the edge of a rock just overlooking the ocean. Large ice edged waves crashed against the jagged rocks; water flying into the air. The thick darkness enveloped the shoreline, causing the hooded rider to slow his horse to a trot. Then after a couple of feet, the rider pulled on the reins of the horse and slowed to a stop. Just in front of the rider was the castle. However, the rider did not lead his horse up the the stone causeway. He turned his horse around and his eyes scanned the ominous forest.

"YAH!" he cried. He guided his horse around the side of the stronghold, and began galloping at full speed along a coastal dirt road. His horse was fast, but just out of the trees came two more riders, also galloping at full speed. Summer rain spilled out of the clouded heavens cleansing the land with a refreshing coolness. Flashes of lightning flooded the land, showing the power of a mid summer storm.

Hello Thomas, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
