I think what they mean is the details that lead up to the holocaust. For those of you unfamiliar with the timeline, there was a global resource war involving China, America, and others that went on on for 25(?) years I think it was before tensions broke down and everyone burned each other. The conflict of interest could be worse I suppose... http://cheezburger.com/7626206976
Contradictions are often used deliberately as a literary device. This case in particular has a way of drawing you further in: it leads you one way, then yanks you back the other way. It wouldn't be quite so effective, IMHO, if the more technically accurate words were used.
2:00am, I'm half awake and very bored, so I decided to muck about with this a little. My version is still pretty ham-fisted probably, but at least I tried to repair some of the tautology.
Please post where they say this. There is, it seems, blatant copyright violation going on in this thread, and we're going to have to delete the thread if you can't prove you have permission to post this material.
The original is a deliberate contradiction - badly handled, I'll grant you, most definitely badly handled, maybe even done wrong - but it is a deliberate device the author is using. I was simply quoting someone who used the very same device and did it well, and did it right On another note: so is the excerpt an original from the OP? I'm getting confused because above me there the OP's posted a reworked version because he's bored... Is this his work we're critiquing, or someone else's?
