which is exactly why i keep mine on a key ring attached to my wallet, which i keep handy at all times and would never leave behind in an emergency/disaster, such as the typhoons/tsunamis we're prone to here...
Why not have your cake and eat it too? My external harddrive (Western Digital ranked #1 by most PC magazines) plugs into my PC with a simple USB cord (same plug as I use for my flash drive). In a fire or other emergency, I can grab the drive, unplug the USB cable and power plug and I'm gone. No appreciable difference in time, but an external harddrive can also contain all my programs as well as my documents . . . basically, my whole computer system is backed up, not just data files. I keep a flash drive too for convenience between my office and home systems.
I haven't had it happen to an entire book, but I have had it happen to pieces of a manuscript. I'm sure to keep my work on a flashdrive, back it up onto a computer once in a while, and then back it back up on the flashdrive. Yes, flashdrives are invaluable. I would highly suggest getting one, Joker.
Must I learn things the hard way??? My 45 page story that i was sooo proud of myself for getting so far ahead in just decided to lose 30 pages and its climax!!! I honestly want to burn my Sam disk for that! Luckily, the blog entries I made took me up to 26 pages I have a Sam Disk to BURN, I'll be back in a minute
That happened to me once. I was so P.O'd! Luckly though I hadn't began writing the stoy, I was still writing the outline, and coming up with ideas.
If I could have been that lucky Foxee thinks I should share my weird little back up:" blog entries, you don't even have to publish them to keep them on file
