I'm terribly saddened to hear the news about David Haines. The crazy just never ends.

Solidarity, Dante. Seems to be a better year for my friends too which shouldn't make it worse but it does.

I'm sorry, but I laughed when I read this. Where do you meet these girls?

That was actually an old girlfriend from high school, wanted to see if there was anything still there. There wasn't. :p

Imagine my face! I wasn't sure what to say to that one.

Beheading innocent people, that sounds like a very sound religion. How can people do such things and claim it is for their religion? Do they really think doing that kind of crap is going to ever get them really recognized as an Islamic State?

This is not a religion, nor is it an ideology. ISIL is a pestilence, and as such needs to be eradicated.

I have to say it's bloody annoying getting invitations to weddings and seeing photos of contemporaries getting married on Facebook. Then there's single me going back to uni! Makes me feel five years behind - don't know if you're the same.

Oh yeah I am. Three of my school friends are just about to start PhDs, and I'm finally getting around to starting my MA. They were lucky, they either had family willing to fund their MAs straight out of uni, or were offered PhD positions on the strength of their undergrad dissertations, but still, what a way to make a guy feel inadequate!

I know what you two mean. I'm nearly a year out of college and I don't have a job (yet), no girlfriend, nada. I still feel nearly a decade behind my peers. :(

Aw, Link. It'll come together. Think of the advantage the three of us have: we'll have more experience to bring to the table when we do catch up with our contemporaries. Think on the brighter side.

My neighbours are building. Yeah okay life happens I can cope with the 8-5pm Mon-Fri building noise and copious amounts of arse crack viewable over my 8ft fence. But for christ's sake, do you really have to start up your own power tools on the two days a week I get a break from that shit? Seriously, you are an office worker, it's not like you're shaving months off your build team's time by using an angle grinder for 8hrs on a saturday. Just give that shit up and let the professionals handle it.

From what I can see you've failed to install a window on the north facing wall (southern hemisphere) of your extension making it dark and unlivable anyway. And are you aware your wife randomly turns up on site requesting adhoc changes to the design that the builder proudly tells her will cost about $10k a piece?

The last house I owned was in a small tract that was owned by an unethical developer. After selling one of the houses, the developer proceeded to not only put her house in the adjacent lot in front of the existing house in a really troubling way, the builders just happened to set the back hoe to digging 'accidentally' too close to the neighbor's foundation. The wider half moon shaped window on the grey roofed house is their front door.

The red roof belonged to the developer's house:

I'm surprised council even allow building so tightly on the boundary.

I've done that before. They typically have a long enough half life you should be OK.

There's a 5 foot set back which believe it or not, both houses meet. It was the angle and bringing the developer's house so far forward on the lot that caused it to be as bad as it ended up. The developer was an absolute bitch. Things she promised all of use she reneged on. She said she'd develop the community lot (that allowed her to develop smaller lots than the standard building code). That ended up being throwing some grass seed around. We went in as neighbors and actually developed the lot with swings and picnic tables.

I got my investment out of the house I bought with a decent profit. It was a good investment. But it was several years of being disgusted before I sold my house. What a relief it was to get out of there.

Yeah I imagine it was a relief. Unfortunately it's stuff like this that makes me feel like humanity could easily benefit from another plague. I have so little faith in humanity as it is, and then people just do shit like this. My neighbours are no different.

@AlVic I'm okay, just a little down and low-energy. about to go check and see if they've arrived today. fingers crossed...

@GingerCoffee I sometimes forget the second dose in a day, but the only time I've gone completely without for any length of time was when I went on a trip a couple of years ago and pretty much forgot to take them entirely for a week. that was--really bad.

    thank you both. :)
