I'm definitely looking a lot at the larger picture. I'm basically installing an office culture where everyone but the political reporters are left alone and treated nicely, as long as they don't present a challenge. It's an authoritarian regime rather than a totalitarian regime now - Totalitarians shoot everyone who disagrees (or who they THINK disagrees), Authoritarians only shoot those who speak out. That and the content isn't going to get weird and alienating until the editor starts having a breakdown - there's a difference between simply "biased" coverage and straight-out propaganda, and that will be an obvious shift. That and I'm providing a motivation by having my villain maintain a pretty intricate blackmail network that artificially keeps her in power.
