I'm a 19 year old straight male. I mostly write horror stories. My MC in my current wip is a 16 year old girl. I actually find it quite easy to write female characters because I have 4 sisters. I also sometimes write other things like Sci-Fi/Fantasy or Comedy. But writing horror is awesome!
Straight dude born 17 years ago. I mostly write very, very short stories (somehow just can't seem to get over 7 pages on Word). I like writing horror, sometimes going a little historical. My horror stories sometimes wander into fantasy or adventure genres. Right now suffering from a tiny Writer's block. But I guess I'll get over it.
Let me introduce myself. I'm James, the emergent property of my physical structure and the environs circumstance has had me inhabit. I've written all-sorts: 10 grand openings of my grand opus of the moment (none of which I've finished) , poems (in times when life's balances are tipped on way or the other), lyrics, quotes, observations, comedy, horror...et al. I have not yet discovered my niche; maybe I never will, cursed am I with tiring of my own efforts in particular genres. Methinks I need some muses to amuse - in return I'll endeavour to keep myself focused. I think too it'd be informative if posters from hereon declared their reason for being here and their writing goals. The above posts seem bereft of argument. < Not being critical, just trying to add some latitude to what could become a stilted thread.
I tend to write on the opposite side of whatever my personality appears to most outsiders. I enjoy the whimsical, the surreal and the romantic; currently I'm in the beginning stages of a Junior/Young adult novel that's been trotting around in my head for a couple of years. That alongside a surrealistic sort of sci-fi creation, the premise of which I haven't even fully decided yet, and thus have allowed to incubate for the last four years or so, to be picked up whenever the inspiration strikes me in force. Oh, and since it seems to be in vogue to mention it, I'm a heterosexual male with longish hair and faintly effeminate features. Which means I tend to have my sexuality questioned on a regular basis. I like to think of myself as a pretty chill dude. Many others tend to disagree.
I'm a 20 year-old female who lives in Australia. I recently completed a course in professional writing and editing which has boosted my confidence as a writer but I still have A LOT to learn. I’m working on my first novel which is a mix of action, comedy, drama and adventure. I'm a visual writer who listens to music that inspires me and finds writing at night far more productive than any other time. I’m also left handed
I am a 30 year old man from nowhere in particular and i often write science fantasy (multiverse opera) usually with female mc's mainly because i have always wrote with female mc's. though i started with sci-fi but i found to constricting, so i started sci fantasy instead far more intresting.
I am a [sexual orientation, age, and gender have been censored] and I mostly write... well I write whatever interests me. Whether its fantasy, [second genre listed has also been censored], horror, and scifi. ... Oh yeah. I also love doing stuff like the whole 'censored' bit. Why? Because I am easily amused by such simple things. OK seriously. I am 20, straight, male, and come from the great state of South Dakota. I write fantasy, horror, science fiction, and well just about anything that interests me. If the idea is something I like then I write it. Whether its about a teen in some small town or a badarse space person who does awesome stuff.
Cool thread, we get to know our fellow writers a tad better. I'm a 19 years-old guy from Montreal, Canada. My interests include literature, minimalism and linguistics, with an enormous passion for competitive ballroom dancing and writing. I used to read all kinds of novels but fantasy eventually won the upper hand and right now that's the genre I enjoy writing the most. I also blog occasionally to stimulate my creativity but the interweb's lack of interest for what I write depresses me slightly. And I love this forum, it feels like everyone has intelligent stuff to say. Pretty darn cool.
13yr old, aussie, love sport and beach, and especially writing. I mostly write detective/ mystery. Although, i would love to write a bit of horror/ fantasy but not sure how to really. Anybody with any tips please pm me? Thanks heaps.
I'm a student of the arts - a restless attension seeker. I write characters of all ages, genders and sexual orientations. I like to defy genres, with a bit of drama and mystery - with the surrealist aspects of the real world gone slightly astray. I am overly confident and prone to mistakes. I am a woman; believe it or not internet!
Hey I'm a 22 year old guy currently studying German and European Studies at University. I usually live in England but I'm doing my year abroad in Germany at this point in time! Love writing, love rowing and chilling! I mostly write sci fi or dystopian stories since they're also my favourite genres. Last but not least....I think I spend way to much time on these forums! But hey what ya gonna do?!
I'm a girl in my 40s. Married over a quarter of a century. Mother and grandmother. I've been an EMT, truck driver, airline employee, aircraft fueler, daycare teacher, call center supervisor, and more. I write non-fiction articles on topics of community interest, health, and new age subjects. I've been published (paid) in local newspapers and trade magazines. I also write young adult, fantasy, and romance novels. However, my preferred reading choices are classics, non-fiction, and hot trashy romance.
I'm an 18 year old guy living in Texas(which I hate immensely.) I write... a lot of different stuff, since my creativity assaults me to say the least. I'm a Socialist Libertarian, and hope to one day create a story that affects readers in a profound way. Currently, I'm trying to find the focus to write a full novel, and clean up my writing style. Tips for both are greatly appreciated. To wrap things up, can one still work as a poet?
I'm an 18 year old female social science student from Montreal, Canada who is currently on summer break (YISSSSS) I write mostly fantasy with a hint of sci-fi, specifically steam punk. My MCs are usually male, but mostly in the smaller projects. I'm currently working on two writing projects that will hopefully be published upon completion. I also write essays against my will.
Hi, I'm a forty something year old straight guy living in New Zealand with his two cats (isn't that sad! Except for the cats who eat regularly and don't give a damn about the rest of course.) I write fantasy and science fiction simply because its pretty much all I read and have done since I was a kid. As to why I joined here and a couple of other fora. I published my first book Thief a little over a year ago, was immensely pleased with myself, and it sold bugger all. I decided this year that I'd do better and that to do better I needed to sharpen my skills a bit. I'm pleased to report my next two novels Maverick and Dragon are far outstripping Thief in sales and I'm even getting some decent feedback. So Yeehah! Cheers all.
Interesting. I thought I was the only one who worked tons of jobs. Granted I am only 39 but over the year I have been: Bagger, Dish washer, Janitor, Tutor, Computer Programmer, Reports Designer, Tech Support Call Center, Cable Guy, Hotel Desk Clerc, Solar Electric Tech, Telephony Tech and I am now a Network Administrator. Its like I get bored with a job then go back to school and challenge my self to a new job. Or it could just be this crazy economy. I worked a couple places that filed chapter 11 and laid every one off.
I am a 44 year old Man. Husband, father of one 19 year son and a brand new daughter who is just turning, 7 days young. (Yes she was actually planned. Wink, wink, nod, nod.) I am an avid fan in the very sense of the word fanatic, of Isaac Asimov. In my life I have been a soldier, a salesman (felt more like a Willie Lowman at times) and a truck driver (for more than 12 years). I am an active member of the Libertarian Party, and do some volunteer work for the Advocates for Self-Government. I crawled out of the bunk of my 2000 Freightliner FLD one summer day, and never looked back. I went back to school, set on being a teacher. Mathematics being my thought, however, one day my little hobby of writing songs sort of caught on, and I became busy doing that, before I knew it, I was being called an independent artist, who's music style meandered between Blues, to Americana. I have a particular fondness for a good story, not just a good idea for story, but that gem of a piece, where it's tough to discern where the romanticism ends, and the realism begins. I write everything from songs, poetry (published but poetically speaking not paid) I tend to write memoir-ish essays and short stories of my personal experiences. As of right now in my life, I am a stay at home dad, committed to being a dad, and husband. I ghost write for online journals, and SEO services. (I absolutely hate doing that by the way! but hey... it's writing and I make a few bucks doing it.)
I enjoy writing two of my favourite subjects, Fantasy & Horror. Bring them together and you get a massive spill of a thrilling roller-coaster ride of amazement
I am infinite space. I write a lot of stuff. So broad that I cannot properly define it without missing something.
I'm a 38 year old woman living in Australia and working as a paper shuffler for the government. I taught high school English for 3 years before deciding to take a break from treaching because I got tired of how much of my life it sucked away. It was when I stopped teaching a year ago that I started writing because trying to teach other people how to write really inspired me to actually do some writing of my own. I hope oneday to return to teaching but for now I'm focusing on my writing and I'm hoping to enrol in a creative writing course next year. So far I'm focusing on romances because they are easy and fun and it's helping to get my creative juices flowing. I have some plans for other types of books but i don't want to think too much about them yet but just enjoy this ride I'm on. It is a big relief for me to have a creative outlet and I wish I'd started writing years ago instead of being so afraid that my writing would suck. I love reading what would be considered "literary" fiction but lately I've started to branch out into more commercial stuff and it's helping a lot wit my writing.
It is really nice to heart that you are taking to writing and of course as a native speaker you must have a great command over English and secondly having gone through teaching experiences you know how to convince people or tell things within their understandings. I hope you will come up with wonderful stories soon
I'm a straight 33-year old man, single but happy, and write stories with a strong female lead, and sometimes even a full-female cast. Right now I'm trying to decide what story to write, but I'm leaning more and more into an 89s one-man army thingy like Rambo: First Blood, Red Scorpion, Commando and so on with a female lead. Or even a The Expendables with an all-female cast. But don't get me wrong, I love male leads too. I finally got Bloodsport 3 on DVD yesterday (I know... I'm not proud of it...) but the character has to suit the story. Alien had a neutral cast (well, only two women and several guys, but a female heroine made up for it), but it would have worked just as well with a male hero. Probably. Any of the four Superman-movies would have worked just as well as Supergirl-movies. (Superman IV doesn't exist.) Indiana Jones would have worked just as well with an equally great female actress as Indy. And Star Wars? If it had been prince Luke and orphant-Leia, it wouldn't have made a difference. You get my point. Male or female? Whatever suits the story.
I'm a 26 year old from the UK, currently doing a part-time degree in Civil Engineering and working full-time as a Structural Technician. I write horror/thriller novels and short stories. I think I can trace most of my horror roots back to my Gran. She always had a Dean Koontz or even gorier, a Richard Laymon, on the go. The more horrific the better it seemed to be for her.
I'm a 25 year-old female currently living with my wonderful fiance and his family, although we're moving into our own place next month, whoo! I've lived in different states on the east coast from Maine to Florida and back again, and have had jobs ranging from grocery cashier to mortgage refinancing... and this has just been since I was 18. I'm currently a guest service agent at a hotel and I love the freedom it gives me to write while I'm at work (If you've ever worked a hotel front desk job you know how much down-time there can be.) I enjoy writing the whole spectrum of sci-fi to fantasy and every sub-genre in between, and have no preference over male or female MC's.
