• Hello Predator—Meet Prey! You'll get along famously

Finally I've found a good and fairly comprehensive video on this subject, something I've tried many times to elaborate on throughout this blog. Iain McGilchrist seems to be just about the only scientist concentrating on this subject today, aside from some low-key research groups doing studies nobody ever hears about (unless they look into McGilchrist's work). He's its popularizer, the way Carl Sagan and Neil DeGrass Tyson are for astrophysics and science in general. Several times I've explained...

• A Phantom for My Opera?

Some days when I doubt myself and my abilities to write I think of employing a ghost writer. But in a bit of a different setup. I will write the first draft and then the potential ghost writer can refine it to a readable/enjoyable state. I love storytelling, and I love the creative process. But my produce just isn't up to par most of the time. Training is like trying to teach an old dog new tricks. I read, I watch, I practice... I learn? Yeah, sometimes I do learn. But I will continue to try my best. So no, I will not employ a phantom for my space opera. I will be the author of my own...
• The Desperate Search for a New Idea...

I think I have it... Not a truly different idea in that it's completely unheard of on any level.. But I had quit story-telling for a while because I couldn't think of something genuinely new and interesting. Different in terms of style, structure, and idea. As a fiction writer...I tend to want to create something. To flex my imagination rather than offering stylistic renditions of the same types of stories. Only problem is...I think I will never complete it in time. I know...cryptic. Useless...but this is more a time-stamp for myself. Maybe, in time, someone will look back on...
• Time, time, time

On our neighborhood walks my wife and I used to walk past a big old deciduous tree (as I recall, though it may have been a pine). A couple years back, though, it dropped its biggest branch and some others in a storm, and the property owners had it removed. All of it, stump and all. This year when we walked past that spot, there is absolutely no indication that the tree was ever there. Once the next generation of property owners move in, no one will recall that tree. It existed, but now it's totally gone. When we moved into our house more than 20 years back, a semi-retired surgeon and...
1. Sun Tzu's Art of Ant Killing

There was a breach in the defenses of the wall. The caulk had given way.

It's winter and the enemy has been looking for a place to take shelter. With the animals' food storage located right against the weakness, it was the perfect place to strike. Poisoning the well was their strategy.

As an adviser, I'd alerted the emperor and empress to this pressing matter. However, it was not treated with the necessary sincerity the first time around. With assistance from my own family I was able to...
2. Normalcy

Yuck. I haven't done this in a while, but it's a very personal one:

~>~>~>~>~>~>~>~>

nor-mal/-adjective 1. conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural

With every life comes it's differences...Throughout that life will come problems, and with each problem the answer is soon to follow. The way of life now is to be normal...Not stand out and be a different person...being scared to show who you really are...and when you do you get labeled: jock,...
3. Blame it on (insert here)

My heart is racing, even though I'm laying on the couch.

I can't sleep, even though I can't get out of bed.

It's anxiety. No, it's depression. Wait, it's insomnia. No, the insomnia is caused by the depression. Actually, more precisely, the depression is a response to the anxiety which is producing this insomnia.

Don't be silly. Your sleep schedule is out of wack because your circadian rhythm isn't in sync. Take some melatonin! It's not the chemicals in your brain that are unbalanced, but...
4. It's all going downhill right now

I have been experiencing bad vertigo for quite a while now. It just gets worse and worse, despite the medications for it. It's stressful, nauseating, and sometimes even a bit scary when I feel like I can't stay upright. Even when I'm in my bed trying to sleep, I'm tormented by the feeling of spinning and falling.

What's even worse, though, is that my hearing is slowly failing. The hearing in my right ear was always extremely bad, but now the hearing in my left ear (the one with the...
5. My first draft is terrible

And I'm okay with that.

Even though I'm only a little bit more than halfway finished, I think this first draft is looking rather ugly. But I know I am going to work on it. Edit, rewrite, rethink. Characters will have their personalities warped before my eyes. Settings will transition from boring and dead to alive. Things will be stripped away, and others added.

It takes time to make something good when you yourself is not as good as the product you wish to make. Or am I striving for an...
6. Wyatt's Advisory's Poems

Here is a space for anyone in Wyatt's advisory to post poetry to be workshopped (commented on, edited) and for us all to become better writers. The one thing I ask is that we all be sensitive to each other by offering constructive criticism, that is, suggestions that are made in the spirit of helping others become better writers.

8. The betrayal Chapter 33 snippet

Stumbling down the stairway, Kate ran her hands through her hair. God, she thought, the other man’s blood was all in her hair and over his face. Wiping her face off on the sleeve of her leather jacket, she managed to get most of it off her face. What she didn’t get would have to wait for her to get to back to her fighter.

Reaching the first floor, she stopped and set her head on the corner of the banister. Things had to change some time, she mused to herself with a sigh, and...
9. Blog Discovery!

Wow! Right now I discovered that users here have a blog. By chance, it was--the blog links are so unobtrusive that I had overlooked them for the last two weeks.

I will have to check other's blogs to get an idea what can go here. Will be back soon!
10. 1...

"Alexandra Richies! My name, is right there on her birth certificate." I scream, stabbing my finger at the yellow piece of paper I have in my hand. "Yours, Miss I'm-Too-Good-For-Everyone, is not. You are not her mother, you are a nobody. And you have absolutely no right to take her away from me! I swear to God, you stupid and inconsiderate b***h, if you take my daughter one step outside of that door, I will hunt you down and I will kill you!" The stupid and inconsiderate...
11. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Reviewed

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Move like a butterfly, sting like a Chevy- Wait, I thought they went broke. Why are the spending millions on cars for a movie where the only people who will care Bumblebee is a Camaro are 8 years old? Yes. The advertising in the Transformers films are shameless, and pathetically misguided. But that's sort of funny in it's own way.

Back to the review. I love Transformers. Being a mass media freak who has had his hand in almost all types of mass media...

12. Out of the Closet

Ethan awoke to the soft creaking of his bedroom door.
A small, blanket wielding silhouette stood wavering in the pillar of light from the hall, casting a stark shadow through his softly illuminated room.
“Daddy?” It asked meekly.
Ethan rubbed his face and eyed the digital clock on his nightstand.
It was 2:14 AM.
“Yeah, Emily?” he croaked tiredly. “What is it?”
His four year old daughter popped her thumb out of her mouth and itched her belly.
“They won’t let me sleep,” she answered...
13. Bloooooog

Hello writing friends. I'm starting to get used to this site and forum life in general. I haven't been a part of a forum since my younger days when I had an obsession with the Independent music scene. I think its awesome how I can blog here, and perhaps I'll start up an online novella. 1 chapter per blog post. Obviously it would be just for fun, and maybe I'd put some of those chapters into the dreaded review room for you to criticize and tear apart. :) What would you think about that? I'm...
14. Re: Meet the Publisher

[Copied and pasted from my external blog. Please do take a look. I'm trying to update regularly, every few days or so]

Okay, so apparantly I ballsed up somewhere along the lines with the interview mentioned in my previous post, and it’s already happened.

But for anyone who is interested in listening to it,...
15. Let's get going.

Today Socrates is off to school, it is end of term and his class have formed an ensemble that will be playing in front of local dignitaries. Angus is being a brat he has had a bad morning.
