(No, seriously, Marvel: Infinity War and Endgame spoilers are ahead)

I'm a member of the Thanos fan club. Not because I think he should be nominated for citizen of the year, or because /r/thanosdidnothingwrong. I like Thanos because he is an excellent villain. He manages to be evil on a scale hither to...
  4. 3 Things We Can Learn from Hemingway's Writing Process

Finish a work by Orwell or Tolstoy, Twain or Joyce, and you may feel like a mere man among gods.

But thanks to the Hemingway Library Edition of A Farewell to Arms, we find it is possible to see through the monuments and marble statues and busts of our literary idols, until all that’s left is - in fact - the man.

So here’s three things we can learn from a behind-the-scenes perspective of Hemingway’s craft.

    1. Economy

    Yes, it’s well-known Hemingway’s style...
  5. Are you a Nazi?

I have recently discovered that I am. Not a national socialist, I don't want to reopen Auschwitz, but as far as writing goes I'm a bit of a plot Nazi. I couldn't see past little perceived plot errors in this month short story contests and so I essentially voted for none of them, rather I voted for the one I thought least likely to win. Is that a bad thing? Other people have jumped my stuff about comma splits and the like and I thought that was unreasonable. I think I'm being equally...
  6. Ingenuity, or perhaps disingenuity?

Ah, the wonders of fantasy. Terry Brooks, Tolkien, the guy who wrote the Belgariad.
The awe-inspiring heights of science fiction. Asimov, Dune, Ender's Game.

And then there's me, sitting over here clutching my pearls anytime someone brings up the greats. "Oh, I, uh, haven't actually read them, because I don't read anything in the genre I'm writing." I'm so great at logic.

I'm not one to consider myself a victim of imposter syndrome; I know who and what I am, to a greater inch than anyone...

Man, I should really watch some Akame ga Kill! My favorite anime series. What episode am I on again? I guess it should just start wherever I left off; I didn't take the disc out.

Ah, that was my phone. Must've got a text.

Shit. I really want to finish this little article I'm writing. I keep getting distracted. It's already half-way done but I keep losing momentum....
  8. Don't look in the mirror

A simple glance at myself in a mirror and the world crumbles around me. Such reverse vanity can bring the dread of living back to the forefront of my mind. What utility is there in being able to hate yourself? Why is it a possibility to have such drastically different factions in my head? Who am I in all of it, just an observer or an active participant?

The angel, the devil, and the person in between. Do I have the ability to sing my own verse over the melody, or am I just choosing between...
  9. What the...? (Adult Language)

So I get on the bus, sit in my usual place and think about last night with a torturous pain behind my eyelids. I didn't get enough sleep. Living alone for the last few weeks hasn't helped. I feel isolated, more than I usually am. I lean my elbow on the back of the seat in front of me and take a deep breath, looking at people scurrying towards the bus. I think of how angry and drained I am in general. Do I have depression? No... I don't think so. Then I think I just want to fight someone.

    A...
  10. The Good

The phrase "I hate losing more than I enjoy winning" is one that resonates deeply with me. So it's worth going out of my way to show some appreciation for the good.

Moving-in went very smooth. Nothing got dropped and broke. I got to bring everything that I'd wanted to. Stayed true to my word and didn't bring my gaming computer. The laptop shouldn't be nearly as big of a distraction so long as I strictly use it for school (no installing video games, even at the "behests" of friends)....
  11. Short Fuse

Surprisingly, today I spent a good six hours trying to get my mini-fridge to do the only task it was designed to do.

And I'd like to clarify by saying that it is certainly not just meant for beverages. It was described as being used for anything a regular fridge would be used for.

Less than a day later and the back wall is already covered in a thick layer of frost. What the Hell?

Checked the gasket. Discovered it wasn't sealing properly on an entire corner of the door. At least...
  12. Grief

I just woke up in the middle of the night, not panting, not being restless or angry, but as if I had been conscious all the while that I had been dreaming. I woke up at 3:43 AM after having a dream of my dear uncle who had been very close to me, almost like a father, even kinder. I dreamed of the time he was going to final decline. I was worried about what he had been through before he passed away... had he been suffering? Had a pain in his chest? But no... he had passed away in his sleep,...
  13. Creation: Short story (782 words)

This was a little short I wrote for my old blog, Salem's Creations.
The story was written in 2012 about a Goddess who makes a prophecy about December 21st, 2012; the end of the Mayan calendar. Tell me what you think and I hope you like it.
*I have not edited this because it is an abandoned project. I have no intention of reviving it. I'm just sharing some previous work.

  14. Batman?

The comments on the mismanagement of Batman in the recent movies is exhaustive, but upon watching it...I had one more thing to add... I hate that he's a superhero.

    Let me explain.

Batman is not super human. He's an ordinary human that's pushed his boundaries further than other ordinary humans have. He's not only the richest, but he's also has very high intellect and his physical prowess is so far above the norm it's understandable if anyone might question whether it is a...
  15. Speaking of Monkeys

Well, at least thinking about them. All because of a squirrel in my backyard. A squirrel who decided to climb up onto my newly-made (homemade) platform bird feeder; he meant to steal the sunflower seeds, but when he leaped onto it, he caused it to tip violently and revealed a flaw in my design: I had it hanging from a hook, and it simply flipped over, tossing him and the feeder and the seed onto the lawn.

So I realized I had to do a bit of modifying. Here's where the monkeys come in....
