Hi, I wonder if anyone knows of any really good novels about a character leaving home. I am not looking for something about an adventure or something extraordinary happening, more a book on the general experience of it. I don't know of any books that focus on the emotional side of this and was wondering if anyone knows of one? Thanks in advance, Jonathan22
The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is kinda like that, but the main character is more staying away from home, rather than actually leaving.
Thanks, I'll take a look at the latter, I've read The Catcher In The Rye, it's a very good read. Well, if there's not much response I can only assume there's not a lot of books out there that cover this specific topic, which is only good for what I'm planning to write!
"Prep" is about a girl who goes to a boarding school (kind of like a going to college experience) on scholarship. It's a great read, but a chick lit, and you're a guy....
Looking For Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. Both are good, albeit a bit dry. And although I haven't this particular series, I believe it partly deals with what you are looking for: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares.
Oh and also for older reads: Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
