This kind of makes me think of how I desire to write my books. I aim to try and showcase everything as misconceptions, misunderstandings, or difference in perspectives. I do think that violence is rather universal though. Sure there is 100 different ways you can go about a conflict, however conflict in its nature I think is violent in some form. In my opinion, regardless of how you do it, everything can be a violent act. Even if its just an exchange of words across a table. The violence would be there. A virus, plague, sword, word, thought, plan, inaction, finance - can all be used violently in that they can all cause harm when used the "proper" way. I think that violence is resorted to sometimes more quickly than it should in books and movies but if you consider the mentality of that concept and time/place than it may seem necessary. It's more than an act to look cool, its simply the "final option". You can write and show two people/groups talking it out or working on a problem or searching for that third option all they can but when that fails, when both sides are unable to figure it out and their interests collide so drastically - it ends in violence as the existence of the other opinion prevents your own from thriving. Yeah I have seen many anime and movies where the "bad guy" has a change of heart or is convinced of giving up his old ways, however I still look at that personally as a compromise. However again, i notice that all of them were forced into violence prior to finding the answer.
