    Adult characters in middle grade?

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Vernalire, Dec 5, 2019.

So essentially I want to know can you have adults as side characters in middle grade fiction? Like on a journey and they're there to help... And they're not like bail outs, rather people he looks up to and for guidance... Think the new Spiderman and Tony stark type of chemistry.

I don't know if that's a good enough explanation? Let me know

I see that is common. I mean can't have kids without adults... Except in some fantasy, but adults are there somehow... , but I was thinking of more of a higher ratio of adults. Like they're on a mission (journey) and it's like 6 adults (some in 18-20s) and like 4 kids (includes Mc). And no the adults aren't needed to forward story or act as a cushion for trouble. Some of them are morale supporters while others have own agenda that conflicts with MC and help develop Mc... Etc.

Did that make sense. And thank you for your answer!
