Hi! I'm completely new to this forum, having just discovered it yesterday. However I'm not new at creative writing - I started writing when I was about 12, have dozens of unfinished stories and I have already posted one finished and two unfinished stories on the internet with some mixed reactions. I'm from the Czech Republic, so unfortunately (for you), I write my stories in Czech and you will propably never be able to read them (unless they are published and popular enough to be translated ). Just a quick summary of the three stories I have made public: (I wanted to post links to them as well, but I was not alowed to.) Rebirth (unfinished) Rebirth is one of my first stories. It's about a sleeper ship's crew that's crashed on an alien planet, struggling for survival. It's really horrible and I don't want to ever read it again The Secret of the Nebula (unfinished) That's much better. This time I went for a humorous style and it turned out to be quite popular. The beginning is about two scout fighter pilots who discover something strange in a nebula. The rest is still waiting to be written (and will forever be waiting). The Ricochet Incident (finished!) I like this one, but somehow it wasn't that popular. Maybe because it's serious again? It is about a rogue starship captain, who tries to undermine a treaty between humans and aliens by destroying the aliens' abassador's ship and about his XO who tries to stop him. As you can see I write mostly sci-fi, but I have ambitions for fantasy and alternate history as well. I'd like to discuss some aspects of my stories here. It's always good to have another science fiction fan aboard. Oddly enough I'm writing my current novel about a region based off the Czech Republic/Eastern Europe. Welcome to the site.

Hello Akhera, Welcome to the Writing Forums. I hope you aren't here solely to "discuss some aspects of my stories here" but rather to improve your craft. This isn't a site for promotiong your writing. It's a site for people who wish to become better writers and explore new directions. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum).
