    Am I the only one...

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by aguywhotypes, May 21, 2019.

Who is so sick and tired of watching TV shows where they always disarm the bomb with 1.6 seconds to go or something close to that?

I've always wanted them to disarm the bomb with 3 minutes left or maybe one minute forty-five seconds. That would be refreshing. It's not suspenseful, don't worry we'll get the bomb defused but not until 0.6 seconds.

Whew! That was a close one! Could you feel it?

    Am I the only one?
    Thoughts/ideas/coments?

Any thriller book that doesn't do this last second stuff?

You're not the only one. Though, most of the time I'm rooting for the bomb, so I'm kind of biased.

    :superidea:
They need to have a bomb being defused while falling from a plane at 30,000 feet, at night, during a blizzard.
That would be some shit to see, and I bet it would take a good long while longer that 1.6 seconds.

I think he means with that being all the time left on the clock before the device detonates.

But, being completely honest, I'd love to see the bomb actually detonate for once. It would be a nice change of pace from the "holy crap, there's a bomb, red wire, blue wire! Which one is it" and then getting it right literally last second.

I think it has become a common..... trope? i suppose..... for TV to do. It's a quick and easy method to rise the tension. Sadly I think that it's overuse has resulted in people just expecting it to be disarmed at 1 second. So it now fails to rise the tension.

I have seen a few shows now where they instead don't include a timer on the bomb (it also makes more sense - why would a bomber attach a timer on his own bomb? He would know when it is set to detonate unless he is the most scatterbrained or forgetful bomber). It's refreshing to see now different ideas being used in regards to bombs.

Bombs have to want to disarm, just going in and forcing them by cutting wires is an unethical violation of their rights.

"Trust me, I know what I'm doing."

This is how the tv show 'Sledgehammer' ends. The detective finds and tries to diffuse the nuclear bomb and fails.

Nope, Dark Star is John Carpenter's largely ignored first film. Started as a film school short, became a low-budget feature length movie that actually had theatrical release. Also, it was Alien 0. It didn't work as a comedy, so it was remade into a horror film.

Actually, my two favorites are "The concept is valid regardless of where it originates," and "You are false data."

When they actually try to disarm it 3 minutes earlier, the bomb gets upset and consequently accelerates the countdown ten fold :D

The only one who managed to disarm it earlier is James Bond who managed to disarm it with 7 seconds left. hehe

i'd like to see the character get blown up because the collapsing circuit was a fake and the bomb is actually command detonated with a phone

Well it's not quite to the disarming stage, but The Sum of All Fears is actually quite good. They have all the means to disable the atomic bomb, but they simply cant find it.

Smart of him to strap all those Red Vines to his chest before going out. Could be a long negotiation, and he has to eat.

Loved that movie - a walking parody of itself!
