In one of my unpublishable novels, I have the hero solve the mystery and run off to disarm the bomb with the classic line, "Quick, there's not a moment to loose!" His girlfriend is left in the dust shouting "But here are still four hours left!"
The one second thing has always been annoying to me, but I have to admit that I loved it when I think in the movie Goldfinger, they disarm the bomb with how many seconds remaining? 0:07 of course.
