I have notes for an angel story where God is more or less dead:
In the beginning there was the Creator, and it was good. The Creator created the world and everything in it, and then vanished, leaving behind the Celestials. And for a time it was still good. They lived in Eden, a wondrous continent filled with great abundance. One day though, things changed, and the world was wracked by an earthquake. Eden was split, but still for now at least, it was good. The one nation became two, the Angelic Celestials and the Demonic Celestials. But, as often happens the two nations began to disagree, and war broke out. The final battle took place outside the city of Arcadia; Michael defeated his brother Lucifer, and the Demons where cast out of Heaven and into Hell. On the golden shores of the Lethe the city of Pandaemonium was built, throughout the following years though, dissent grew as the former general Azazael convinced the demons that Lucifer was the one to blame for their loss. For the second time Lucifer was cast out of a world he created. Without the grounding of their leader, the demons have grown disillusioned, bent on regaining what they feel is their right.
Also there's some stuff about Metatron being some woman who can see everything there ever was or will be and is chained up and half insane, Yeshuah, the little orphan whelp who takes care of her, Lucifer washing up on Earth without a memory, Azazael trying to unleash Abadon and take back Heaven, Michael looking for his brother, and generally the oncoming destruction of the world and such.

In short, I like to rape break religion and paint with the soft gooey inside. So many denominations of faith, it's all pretty good story fodder.
