Hello, I have liked the written word since my earliest childhood, been an avid reader for several years and simply adore literature - one can easily count me as a bibliophile. My user name derives from one of my favourite literary figures: that confused Russian professor in Nabokov's novel Pnin. Maybe some people here have read it? I used to write shorter stories some years ago, but as time passed reading became more important in my life and I stopped writing for a while. Lately I have felt the urge to write again, so I would like to pick up that hobby again - but where to start? At the moment I have a very blurred idea of a story in my mind, and I hope I shall be able to find congenial minds with whom I can discuss the progress of writing, people who can help me to shape ideas and form my story. I do not know whether I can offer constructive critic for other people's work, but I am willing to give it a try. And now I'm going to skim the subforums...

Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see.
