Hi to all at WF, My name is Paul and I am a 28 year old freelance automotive journalist from the wee green isle. Have been writing for car mags for the past few years but have recently been bitten by the creative writing bug aswell!
My grandfather was John O'Hagan of County Armagh. He described himself as a 'good Irish Cahtolic heathen'. My grandmother was also from County Armagh, but was Presbyterian. When she was 15 she ran away to marry my grandmother and was deconfirmed or decommissioned or whatever it is that is done to Protestant girls in Ulster who marry Catholic men. She became a Catholic, and spent the next 70 years trying to make a Christian of my grandfather. Although he called himself a heathen, he was an atheist by most people's standards, though he did believe in the Little People. When at age eight I declared my own non-belief, my grandfather laughed, but my grandmother rushed off to Saint John's to light candles and pay for masses for the safety of my soul.
Hi, Paul! Nice to meet you! I hope you enjoy your time on writingforums.com...I really should stop typing out the whole thing, but WF reminds me too much of the other forum I'm a member of, Wolff Fans...lol Anyhow, have fun.
Hello Paul, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
